My boyfriend and I recently had dinner at Flamante in Ciutadella, Minorca. Our experience began on a positive note, with a warm welcome from two reception staff who spoke English fluently and provided excellent service throughout the evening. I want to emphasize that this review is not a reflection on them, as their service was exemplary.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the food and the other staff. I ordered an entrecôte, and my boyfriend opted for lamb racks. When the food arrived, we were surprised to find that the lamb was served as pulled meat rather than racks. My boyfriend still ate it and found it acceptable.
My entrecôte, however, was disappointing. Despite ordering it medium, it arrived rare and appeared as if it had been taken straight from the freezer, looking unusually wet. The attentive lady from the reception noticed my concern and kindly took the dish back to the kitchen. Unfortunately, it returned still somewhat rare. Her efforts were appreciated, but the entrecôte remained one of the worst I had ever eaten. At €30, this dish was a significant letdown, and I couldn’t help but think that perhaps ordering beef at a seaside restaurant was a mistake. Still, if it’s on the menu, it should meet a certain standard.
In an attempt to make up for the unsatisfactory meal, the staff offered us two complimentary glasses of limoncello, which was a thoughtful gesture. The restaurant itself is in a lovely location, and we would have preferred dining on the terrace. However, it was fully booked, so we were seated downstairs, which was less desirable.
In summary, while the service provided by the reception staff at Flamante was excellent, the food did not meet expectations. The restaurant's charming location is a plus, but the dining experience left much to be desired. If you visit, perhaps sticking to seafood would be a...
Read moreThis is a really good restaurant. We've had dinner here twice, both times at the open air terraza arriba with nice views of the harbor. The first time we started with tartar de atun (tuna) and burrata, and then had the rodaballo salvaje (turbot) from the catch of the day menu with patas fritas. The burrata was somewhat too cold and seemed to be mozzarella (there was no stracciatella inside), but tasted OK. The tartar de atun was served with strawberries and sea weed, a seemingly weird but then extremely convincing combination! Really tasty! The fish and patatas were great! Service: two waiters, one perfectly attentive, welcoming, knowledgeable about the food and wine and a bit chatty, the other rather inattentive. Big plus: they had the best gluten free bread I've tried so far. All in all 4.5/5, and so we decided to come back on our last day in Ciutadella. We've ordered the vieiras con papada ibérica and the tomato salad as starters and a catch of the day fish (I think pez san pedro) with patatas fritas as a main. The starters were really good, the fish was fantastic, so we decided to finish the night with cocktails. We chose the Bloody Flamante and the Illa Negroni, which both were really good. Service: we were attended all night by the great waiter from our first visit, and he continued to be great. All in all a fantastic night and we'll be back for sure!...
Read moreI want to start by saying the place has great potential but some of the execution was just wrong. Service was wonderful, Mickey was perfect. The problem was the table next to us. Not the people themselves but what they ordered, a chuletón. This would not normally be a problem but when the server brought the charcoal hibachi tableside, less than half a meter from our table. Not only did you feel the heat on an already warm night, the breeze blew the smoke from the bbq directly across our table. We asked to love but there was nothing else available and I understand this. I am a bbq guy! I stand over my Weber every weekend. I volunteer to cook for friends at their houses every chance I get. But what I do not expect when sitting harborside is a wall of smoke every time our neighbors placed a piece of meat on the grill. This ruined our dinner, left me and my wife smelling of bbq, I didn’t really mind. But it put a big damper on the evening. This is something that should be looked at in the future. I’m not some random tourist. Our group has 17 restaurants in Spain and France, I kind of know what I’m...
