Bodeguita Santa Maria — Restaurant in Estepona

A rainy Sunday, our first full day staying in the area, & supermarkets closed. We needed a proper Spanish meal.

We looked at reviews for lots of local restaurants & decided to take a punt on this place as a lot of the reviews mentioned the freshness & authenticity of the food. We were not disappointed.

We arrived not long after opening so we we’re probably their first customers of the evening. The welcome & service was top notch. The food even better. We ordered some tapas dishes, which were chorizo sausage, & pil pil (garlic prawns), both of which were superb. Make sure you order a side of bread & butter to soak up all the lovely sauce. We also ordered mozzarella & tomato salad, a mixed salad, & seafood paella. Again all fantastic. The paella is next level, seasoned well, full of seafood, absolutely delicious.

I recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the area if you want real authentic Spanish food. It’s not cheap, but with other restaurants in the area serving up microwaved frozen rubbish for similar prices, it’s a no brainier to visit Bodeguita...

Had dinner there last night on a recommendation. Food was delicious, however service was extremely poor. Don’t get me wrong, the staff were all lovely but run off there feet. When our mains arrived there was some minutes between each (4) of us receiving it. My sister did not get her gratin potatoes. When we asked the waiter he said he would see to that. After she had finished her main we asked not to be billed for the potatoes, as they had never arrived. The waiter apologised and said that he had been thrown out of the kitchen when he had asked for them?? We asked for another bottle of wine, it never appeared. When we asked again, the waiter said that the one we had asked for was finished and he forgot to tell us. We would have had a sweet, but to be honest we were pretty fed...

We traveled past Cancelada at lunchtime today. We have been here before but not eaten here. Today we found found Bodeguita Santa Maria. What an incredibly charming place. She who served us was so sweet and nice and made us feel welcome. We ordered some smaller dishes. These were incredibly good and made with love.
