As long as you know that you won’t find authentic Mexican food on the table, you are good. It doesn’t need to be Mexican to be good, in this case I found their menu to be much more Americanized. Maybe some items like the pork reminded me more of Mexico but many other items reminded me of either Mexican border towns with the USA or Southern California or Southern Texas Mexican food. Either way, the food had a good flavor. That, and fact that this is probably the best Mexican restaurant in town, if not the only one, scored them three stars but I was really between three and four. The rest of the experience made me go with three.
We had an issue at arrival with the waitress. I had contacted them for a reservation for 7 people and they indicated that they didn’t take any reservations so we decided to go early in the evening to make sure we could grab a table.
When we arrived, only one table was being occupied. When we asked for a table for seven, they put two small tables together and squeezed us all in there. I had to even ask the waitress to separate the table from the wall so we could have an extra space at the end of the table. Her attitude was just non-customer service. Then she said that if we took three tables she wouldn’t have a lot more tables left, which I understand, but at the same time, we all were eating so the table would have been occupied anyways. We made it work but I had more on an issue with the attitude and the way you speak with your clients.
I have to say that the same waitress completely changed her attitude during dinner and was sweet , attentive and nice.
The next issue that we had was that they bombarded us with the food. We ordered two trays of nachos and within minutes of getting them, we got all the other food. Add that to the little space that we already had, drinks etc… and we were eating a little uncomfortable. I would suggest the owner to make good choices on seating and the way dishes come out. Maybe limit the number of their groups. Other than that, they were super fast making the food.
Although I didn’t like the presentation of some food. I have to say that it was tasty. Their shredded meats were a little dry though.
Nachos were good with a good loaded combination. Their guacamole was great.
All the tacos we got had a good flavor. Some just very wet/greasy which I see is a popular complaint with other reviews. Chorizo though was undercooked. I found a hair on the plate of my chorizo taco.
The “alambre” dish was delicious. Their drinks were also good.
Nothing is spicy unfortunately, but I understand they need to adapt to the local demand.
I think prices are decent in general but a little overpriced for their burritos which are mini. We didn’t have dessert so I can’t judge those.
Overall food had good flavor. If you are craving some Mexican food, this will make the trick. I will come back again but with a...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our meal at Mexa. We ordered the nachos, the veggie quesadilla, the jackfruit tacos, and the vegetarian alambre. I also had two margaritas which were both very tasty. Everything was good, fresh ingredients, flavorful, and they have 2 hot sauces which seemed to be homemade and they were both great. My only criticisms are (thus 4 stars instead of 5): the vegetarian dishes, with the exception of the jackfruit tacos) are all the exact same meal, just served in different ways. What I mean is, it’s the exact same vegetables, cheese, preparation and seasonings, just served either on chips, in a tortilla, or on a plate. A little variety would be nice. Maybe some rice or beans? And the other critique is: everyone knows that corn tortillas (for tacos) have to doubled up because they completely fall apart upon picking them up. Mexa does not double them up and I had to eat my tacos with a fork. Minor issue but could be easily resolved by the restaurant. Otherwise, I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return. Get there early though because a waitlist starts promptly at 8pm seemingly...
Read moreThis was my first time in a mexican restaurant. I expected everything else but for the food to be almost flavorless. I am not sure if it’s just my preference, but I ordered guacamole nachos and the tortilla chips were so hard that with each bite I had to be careful not to break something in my mouth. They also lacked flavor, including salt. Never have I ever had saltless tortilla chips. The whole time I was wishing I had some Doritos instead. The guacamole sauce tasted bland, almost like avocado, little salt and lemon. I am attaching a picture which I apologize, is halfway eaten, since I didn’t expect having to write a review. On the picture is enchillada which I cannot review since I unfortunately couldn’t eat it. My boyfriend said he liked it but, you can never trust my boyfriend, since he would eat anything. I am giving 2 stars because the waiter was nice. I am open to a discussion about the tortilla chips though, maybe it’s just a matter of...
