(Expensive. Small portions. Mediocre food. Pretty place.)
My husband said I should use the word sublime, so I'll say this: the view of Cala Galdana is exactly that. Sublime. The atmosphere is great if you like easy listening covers of pop hits and mod, Instagrammable surroundings. It's a very hip, fashionable place, with expensive rooftop cocktail bar vibes. I wish I could say the same things about the food, but I can't. It was fun and fancy (and you definitely pay well for that!), but we were not full or impressed by the food and drinks. The regular menu is limited, but the sushi menu is extensive. I can't speak to the quality of the sushi because I got the Francesa roll (brie+salmon tartar) and realized that I don't like that combination of melted cheese and sushi. My husband got the Menorcan beef dish which came with a small pile of french fries and dotted mayo-like sauces. But like I said, the view is sublime and the atmosphere is hip and fancy, and if you're already having a great vacation, it won't ruin the experience. Oh, and the "chocolate surprise" dessert is very lemony! It's dyed white chocolate in the shape of a lemon filled with lemon mousse and mojito paste in the middle, with some kind of strawberry or raspberry jam swirled on the side. Delicious,...
Read moreA beautiful looking restaurant and setting but unfortunately I think we turned up on a off night only 1 item from the grill and no chicken stripes on starter influx of kid's we was told , but not a problem as the Nacho's we're really nice. Staff was lovely but maybe going forward explaining the menu and how the food turns up will help when ordering as it's very small portions and as a table of 2 we would definitely of ordered 3 dishes to share had we had a better understanding. But as we didn't I ordered the prawn tacos and my partner ordered pasta mine turned 30 minutes before hers and in that time also ordered pork tacos after the prawns and her's still didn't arrive after eating them. Then the waiter brings the pasta dish apologises saying a lot of kids ordering pasta. So after watching me eat my dinner I'm watching her eat hers all very poor. Ordered a glass of Cava and that turned up with 2 mouth fulls in it like it was the last bit of the bottle was wondering if the kid's had that also lol. Food really good and yes I would come again but hopefully some constructive criticism you can...
Read moreOn an island with so many lovely restaurants it takes something special to stand out from the rest... Francesca's is that special. The airy terrace bustles with its open kitchen and efficient, friendly, staff milling around yet there is an air of serenity that welcomes all who want to eat beautiful food in this oasis in the treetops. Families with young children are treated just as well as couples out for a special dinner... this is how all restaurants should be. The food was devine too... caprese salad and the fluffy, crisp, salty and rich focaccia accompanied with a glass of sangria really whet our appetite. Mains of Melanzane alla parmigiana and the Lamb with potatoes were every bit as perfect as the starters. To finish we had the lightest, tasty tiramisu we'd ever eaten with the Panna cotta al cocco con coulis di mango beautifully rounding off our meal reminding us of the creamy mozzarella just moments ago. On a Tuesday evening in early June the restaurant was almost full so don't hesitate, make a booking and prepare yourself for something special...I'm sure you will not be...
