Literally the strangest dining experience of our life. We came before 8pm on a weeknight in off season and ended up leaving two hours later having only been served two of the four courses we were expecting to get.
The two courses we received - of a four course menu - were very good. However, during the second course, which had already taken over an hour to arrive, the chef came out to have conversations with three of the four tables in residence. Ours was the fourth. We're not at all sure why the chef ignored us in particular, though the other tables were all Grant speaking, like the chef. After a half hour, it became clear we wouldn't be receiving courses 3 and 4 any time soon. More than two hours after we arrived, we asked to have our meal curtailed and not to have the final two courses. We were very disappointed but felt extremely awkward sitting there being ignored while the chef spoke to all the other tables.
The wine was good, but the per-glass prices were not clear, so despite the food being comp'ed, a bottle of wine, two glasses of cava and water still cost over €50
The waiter, though all this was very kind and clearly as embarrassed as us by the whole situation.
Note: the restaurant changed hands in November 2018, so earlier reviews may not...
Read moreThe absolute worst. Food and service were completely deplorable. Go anywhere but here in Fornalutx. The owner was our server and from the moment he attended our table, he was rude, bored, seemed unimpressed and arrogant. From sneering at our most basic questions like seeing a drink menu or getting clarifications about some of the dishes to acting completely indifferent whether we were there or not. For 20 euros I got a falafel plate which were 3 small dry balls of fried chickpeas on some leaves of lettuce. I am a huge supporter of garden to table.. but you need to earn the title of a fine dining restaurant, it’s not just a marketing tool. I had decent expectations for this place and would absolutely never go back. I’m honestly struggling to understand how it has this many good reviews. The only plus to this place were the cocktails. Super tasty and different, the only thing on the menu...
Read moreBy far the most satisfying restaurant experience we have had during several months exploring Mallorca. The couple who own Cafe Med, she Polish, he Hungarian, are the only staff. Their hospitality is genuine, his culinary skills are impressively diverse, their wines are carefully selected; this restaurant is the heart of their lives. As you can see from the photos posted by other reviewers, the menu changes constantly. All of the fare is local, as much from seed in their own garden as possible. And they have chosen to set it and live in the awe-inspiring, gorgeous town of Fornalutx. Take a walk around town before or after your visit to Cafe Med, or plan a more serious hike. We put our bicycles on a rack and drove to Soller, then bicycled the mere 4km up to Fornalutx. We will surely come again. Next time we'll start in Port Soller for a 40...
