Saona Gandía — Restaurant in Gandia

The food at this restaurant was tasty and aesthetically pleasing with a somewhat posh presentation. The artistic ambiance was evident in the decor. However, I found the waitress to be a bit reserved and unhappy, which made the dining experience less enjoyable. She tried hard to smile, but it didn’t quite succeed in making us feel more comfortable.

In terms of overall service, it was decent. As for the food itself, we had high expectations, but it fell short in some aspects. The white wine, in particular, could have been of higher quality, and the octopus dish was a bit on the chewy side. It’s worth mentioning that it seemed more like a place of status, where the style and atmosphere took precedence over the culinary experience. Food was good. Nothing outstanding but everything was enjoyable to a various degree. Patatas bravas were quite low quality in my opinion - they looked like something from a cheap student bar. The waiters are what really spoils the experience - very miserable and unhappy. Saona needs to take care of their employees better as they all seem to be there serving sentences. Zero smile or politeness, slamming doors and practically throwing things on the tables. It is so evident that even my family member who can’t speak a word of spanish noticed it. We had to ask for the bill 3 times, once to be completely ignored, second time to wait forever. Shout out to one waitress who brought us some english menus and unlike the others didn’t seem to be suffering...

Absolutely brilliant place! We were a bit worried since the timings and seats are very limited and we arrived to the venue kind of late. But the lady at the door was ever so kind and understanding. And the food, oh my god. I heard Spain has a great cuisine but as my first experience in Spain, I must say that was quite the shock. It was beautiful and SO DELICIOUS and flavourful. I particularly recommend the "croquetas" with truffle and the artichokes alla parmentière (making the words up as I go, haha, because I don´t exactly remember the names of the dishes).
