Nice place, easy to reach, good food, and every course comes with a warning: "Caliente!"
We started with fried prawn on a stick. The crust was crispy. The prawn flavour was there, but not overwhelmingly so. Very decent!
Second course, pizza croquettes; an interesting concept. The bright orange ragout inside the fried balls tasted somewhat like sun dried tomatoes with spices. Nice and creamy; kind of what you would serve a vegetarian who likes the feel of croquettes.
Then carpaccio with strawberries. What an interesting idea! The meat was tender and well-sliced. The contrasting flavour of the meat and strawberries played surprisingly well off of each other. An unexpected winner!
Next: Two sets of pastries several layers thick and filled with ragout, one veal, one with a shrimp paste. While my eating partner loved it, I felt my veal pastry had been in the oven slightly too long. I ended up with a couple of chunks of charcoal at the end. The shrimp one was better, but I couldn't help but feel there was too much crunch and too little flavour. Not my favourite bite so far, but I'll chalk it up to my own taste, as my partner absolutely loved it.
Finally the seafood ravioli. The pasta was cooked well and tasted as you'd expect. The sauce was sweet and creamy with a few leaves of basil, giving the whole dish a smooth sensation with a little kick afterwards.
So good food overall, but be aware that during peak hours you may be waiting a while. The outside tables are also right next to a road - you'll frequently find yourself struggling with exhaust fumes, so you may want to request a table inside. On the other hand, you've got a decent view of the ocean and a small fort - so that's pretty cool.
Definitely worth checking out if...
Read moreExquisite tapas, some of the best food I ate on the island!
Located near thr Garachico pools, Canadas offers variety of tapas, some main courses and desserts. The following are my absolute top 3: Potatoes and eggs with truffles and cured serrano ham - a masterpiece of simplicity (eggs, ham and potatoes-all fresh and great) with a subtle touch of complexity: truffle oil and bits of truffles. GREAT! Baked cheese in a coat of gofio - unbelievable. I have tried baked/grilled cheese in dozen of places in Tenerife, undoubtedly this one is the best; nice crusty layer on the outside, melting inside and delicious sweet taste of palm tree honey Banana omlette - amazing: a classic delicate omlette with cheese broken with the sweet taste of fried bananas; light and delicious
I have also tried the following, which are solid options: Home made croquettes, pizza flavor - don't let the taste mislead you, these are some of the best croquettes I ate throughout Spain King prawns in a coat of filo pastry - the pastry was crunchy, fatty and delicious; the filling delicate and subtle-highly recommended Vitello tonnato - good; beef tasted like homemade and the tuna paste was very nice Tuna salad - variety of lettuces (including chicory) with delicate piece of tunna, bacon and subtlety sweet vinaigrette
The weakest dish I had was: Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and prawns - you can't complain about the taste nor the infredients, but was definitely overdone. Scrambled eggs can't be that dry.
I have visited this place for the first time three years ago. This year I've eaten here 4 times-quality is consistent. Without a doubt...
Read moreWe picked this restaurant randomly and were very pleasantly surprised. We will probably go back if we get the chance.
It's food sharing so we ordered five mains and one dessert. We started with langoustine skewers (be sure to order enough for each person because the menu indicates the price for just one); then had homemade pizza croquettes; (melt in your mouth) beef carpaccio with thinly sliced parmasan, balsamic vinegar, and small strawberries; shrimp ravioli in a langoustine sauce (with little chunks of langoustine in it); then ended the savory dishes with the veal tips in a mushroom sauce over fried potato cubes with melted cheese on top. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake and it was delicious! Sort of like tiramisu, but with a soft layer of (Italian?) meringue on top and another sliced strawberry.
We sat outside and even though it's right next to the main road, we didn't experience a lot of nuisance from the cars. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are clean, although a little small. The vibe is great. Menus are available in at least three languages. And the views from the patio out onto the Atlantic and the setting sun were...
