Restaurante Galeón — Restaurant in Garachico

We arrived very early evening as a party of 6. We were looking for a late lunch and initially thought this restaurant would be a little too extravagant for a lunch. However, our late afternoon arrival found there to be plenty of available seating and we were shown to the mezzanine area where there was plenty of beautifully laid tables in a bright and airy setting with sea views. The waiter, Luis, was friendly and very accommodating, explaining the menu in detail when asked. The drinks were shockingly well priced and the house white wine went down a treat. Between us we ordered salads, calamari, grilled squid, garlic prawns and very delicious stew of pork and potatoes. All of the food was tasty and everyone enjoyed their meal. The portion sizes were really generous and left no room for ice cream afterwards (generally unheard of!) We have mixed feelings about our visit to this restaurant. While the waitress noticed us immediately and assured us she would attend to us shortly, her colleague came over after about five minutes asking what we would like to order. However, we hadn't been given any menus and were not informed that we could view the menu online via a QR code on the table.

There were four of us, and we ordered two salads, a baked fish dish, and a roasted meat dish. The salads arrived after approximately 15-20 minutes, but the remaining two dishes took an additional half-hour and required us to ask twice about the status of our order. Although the food was tasty and the staff was willing to help, the overall service experience was lacking. The meals were not served simultaneously, and we ended up waiting nearly an hour for the last two dishes.

This restaurant refused to offer seating for my husband and I. I waited in line and overheard the conversation between the host and the customer before me. The host stated that there would be tables available at 7pm. My turn in line came and I asked if I could make a reservation for 7. He immediately said no tables are available and that the restaurant is closed. The hours that day were until 10pm and it was 6pm when I was speaking to him. We went down the street, maybe just one restaurant down and had the best meal ever. When we were done with our meal we walked past this establishment and they were still seating and serving people. My husband is black so I'm SURE that has everything to do with us being turned down for dinner. I just wanted to post this to allow everyone to know what we experienced....
