This place has in recent months gained legendary status.

It used to be a bit run down and scruffy , but it was primarily a Transport Cafe opened to service the hundreds of lorries that come back and forward to Garrucha Port.

However, in recent months it has had a transformation with a new extension and a bright and modern make over.

It still caters for the truckers (early Breakfasts, then lunch and closed in the evenings) but it is clean, comfortable and welcoming even though it is especially busy at lunch times. (When we went most of the tables were full and those that weren't were reserved).

We went 'on speck' one Tuesday in the hope there would be a spare table for 4, which there was.

It was very busy and the staff had to work extremely hard to service everyone but they did it and they continued to smile and speak to us patiently in broken English.

There was a Menu del Dia available with lots of delicious dishes at €11 including a quarter bottle of wine, water plus a coffee.

Salad comes automatically as do the fresh bread roles with Aioli.

We chose a range of starters including Gazpacho and Lasagna but there was Beef Stew on the mains menu as a special so three of us went for that whist one had the chicken.

The Beef Stew was great. Lots of meat in a great gravy whilst the chicken breast was moist and tasty.

There were a range of desert options but I chose a local speciality, a pudding drenched in Whiskey and it was really good.

With Coffee to finish this was a great meal and extremely cheap.

No wonder the lorry drivers all look so happy.

Check it out, you wont be...

I always thought this was a "transport cafe" as there was always a lot of lorries and vans parked outside but after their refurb, wow,a stylish and modern restaurant it now is! We were greeted by a lovely member of staff and seated, then the menu was explained. For 11€, there are 3 courses with lots of choice, with a different "special" daily added to the starters and mains,a salad and bread rolls were brought out to share and our first drink was included in the menu del dia, along with a coffee to finish the meal. All in all,a lovely meal, polite staff and by the time we left an hour later,a full restaurant!!This place is well worth a visit...it may have been our first but it definitely wont...

If you're driving near the Turre-Garrucha road, I highly recommend stopping here. The food is excellent, offering a wide variety of dishes at a great price. The atmosphere is typical of a local establishment, with a relaxed vibe outside peak hours. This place is always one of my favorites whenever I visit family in Costa de Almería.
