A stylish restaurant, themed around the great comedic team of Laurel and Hardy.
The staff here are professional, courteous and friendly and they met our needs perfectly; all were from the UK on the night we visited.
The restaurant itself is stylish, spacious and well laid out; we liked the crystal glasses and quality napkins and cutlery - all of which reinforced the contemporary approach of the restaurant.
The food was very well presented on lovely plates however the quality was lacking and if you've read any of my reviews you'll know I like my food, so here goes. I had tiramisu for dessert; sadly, that awful 'u.h.t., fake cream was used, the critical elements of alcohol, coffee and cocoa - were underplayed leaving the fake cream to dominate the nondescript flavours, and the use of fake cream in a tiramisu, well it's nothing short of a hangable offence; the vanilla ice cream was quite average - think of the 'Lyons Maid' blocks of vanilla ice you get from the corner shop in the uk, and your on the right track; the cheese and ham croquettes were heavy on potato and light on cheese and ham, my mouth was expecting a melting cheese and potato 'hamfest' but basically all we got was potato - it was pleasant, but an opportunity missed; the pork belly was on the tough side, and missed that 'melt-in-the-mouth' sensation of a well cooked pork belly with crispy crunchy crackling - which is what I was anticipating. In short, style over substance! On the plus side, their salads were nicely prepared and 'Stan and Ollies' take on the Spanish dressing/ sauce 'Alioli' tasted nice.
Prices are very reasonable, aim to tip the lovely staff 15% or more.
I like the place and will be back; for me though, I'd probably only order things like burgers and chips - but that's...
Read moreThe restaurant looked very nice, Sunday lunch on the terrace in the sun what more could you ask for, the waitresses seem a little overworked. The starters came we had the mussels there were four that were not opened so they were not edible served with a very salty wine /cream sauce not edible. The main course came I had ordered the three meats lamb, pork and beef. I had to ask the waitress if they had given me all beef as there was no difference they all tasted the same. Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and vegetables all preheated and a thick gravy, Looking at my wife's plate there was more fat than meat on the plate she did not want to make a fuss. We then chose chose our sweets my wife had lemon tart I said no cream please can you put some ice cream on instead came quick reply came from the waitress you will have to pay extra. I said nothing ordering my apple crumble and custard. When the sweets came I my wife's was fine however mine came and the custard was inedible I have no idea how they had made it but no way was I eating it so politely I asked for some ice-cream to go with it as it was just to dry to eat on it's own again came the words you will have to pay extra again I did not reply. It was such a shame with a little more care and attention it could have been a different...
Read moreService apart, this is not going to make it on to my list of Go-To restaurants. Staff were faultlessly pleasant but that is as far as I will go. We had one course of a three course lunch menu yet, inexplicably ended up paying more than the special offer. My wife is vegan and she was given a pasta teriyaki which proved more expensive than my sea bass which carried a €3 supplement!! Go figure! Now we are well aware that vegetarianism and veganism are, to most restauranteurs in Spain, alien concepts but they need to wake up to a trend that is becoming more prevalent throughout the world for health and climate change reasons. My wife does not like broadcasting her dissatisfaction on FB or any other public domain so she made direct contact with the restaurant to offer them our thoughts on the dining experience. No reply. No surprise. We won't be back. PS If you want a great vegetarian or vegan menu, go to BEET in Torrevieja, we did yesterday and it was superb - a 5 out of 5...
