Bar Etxeberría — Restaurant in Hondarribia/Fontarrabie

This is a very cool bar and cafe in Hondarriba’s historic old town, or Alde Zaharra in the Basque language of Euskera. It’s also one of the few places in town where you can order craft IPAs and stouts from the award-winning Basqueland microbrewery! The food and service are top notch, and the ambiance is outstanding. We had the croquet sampler plate, which came with a good variety of these typical Basque pintxos, or bite size delicacies. They were warm and crispy, filled with cream and bacalao and tiny squid pieces in their ink. We also ordered a traditional Basque plate of sheep cheese, walnuts and sliced quince. A typical “local” bar with a menu offering several possibilities for vegetarians. We had an unremarkable portion of Tortilla in the afternoon, but returned later (few other places nearby being open!) for two salads and a plate of patatas, and they were excellent. On this visit the place was busy so service was a bit slow, but (as with the earlier visit!) the staff were friendly...

Me veig en la necessitat de compartir la meva experiència d'uns dies enrere en l'establiment. Deu n'hi do! No tenia intencions d'escriure una ressenya, però el tracte que vaig rebre em va deixar atordida.

El servei va ser simplement pèssim, els cambrers eren tan mal educats que semblava que competien per un premi al pitjor tracte al client, sobretot el de cabell curt, que va trigar mitja hora en servir-nos, i això que només vam demanar unes croquetes i unes cerveses.

Les croquetes i les verdures que ens van servir estaven més congelades que un iceberg a l'Àrtic en ple hivern.

De debò, tenia els meus dubtes des del principi, però quan vaig tastar aquestes croquetes, vaig saber que havia comès un error. Ni tan sols estic segura que fossin fetes a casa; podrien haver estat tretes directament del congelador. I les verdures... bé, ni tan sols vull parlar d'això.

Així que, si algun cop penses a visitar aquest lloc, et suggereixo que ho reconsideris. No vull que ningú més hagi de passar per l'experiència que vaig tenir. Quin desastre!
