El Almacen Del Gourmet — Restaurant in La Oliva

Jamon! Jamon! In spite of a slightly unpromising location inside the El Camponario shopping centre this is a really terrific little wine bar serving top quality hams and charcuterie together with a very interesting selection of wines. What distinguishes El Almacén del Gourmet is the engaging good nature of the young staff who are always willing to discuss wine choices and what delicacies they have on the menu. Although there is a limited selection of wines by the glass I have always found them willing to open a bottle of something else to pour me just a single glass. This is service of the highest order. There are tables outside on the street side as well as tables inside the shopping centre. I recommend the latter, especially in the evening where it is a very congenial spot for a long evening of conversation and sampling. English visitors, especially any from London, will be stunned by how reasonable the bill is when it finally comes time to leave. Walking past noticed sign saying 2euros a pint after 4pm. As it was 10 past 4 decided to have a drink. No one came so went inside. Placed order for 2 pints. Ordered another 2 due to encouragement from Friendly English waiter and it was a good drink. Got the bill 2 pints at 2 euros and 2 at full price. I questioned this as we didn't get served till at least 4.15. Waitress would not accept even after waiter tried to help. A couple of other customers said they do try it on. This place is great. Authentic Spanish, fresh cuts are superb, bread amazing, tapas delicious. We came back the day after for breakfast and it was great once again. It is also not expensive at all, and the waiter and owners are amazing people. They gave us recommendations for the island, where to eat, where to go, how to go, what to do...simply amazing. Definitely going back there another few times before going back home!
