Suddenly, there seems to be a growing interest in incorporating ramen culture in the restaurants of Las Palmas. Like most Japanese restaurants here, this one is also Chinese-run. Unlike Don Don Ramen (still the go-to place for ramen), which specialises in ramen, Tokio offers a pretty wide choice of other Japanese dishes. Plus the fact that it's a large comfortable restaurant, with pleasant decor and ample bar, it is an interesting choice for groups of friends and family.
The waiting staff is generally amicable, but perhaps could be a bit more sensitive to the dining situation. We ordered a few dishes (nigiri, tempura, takoyaki, gyōza, and one ramen to share). They practically come one after the other. We felt pressurised to finish eating quickly to make room, even though the table wasn't small. Of course, by the time we got to the ramen, it wasn't hot, which is key to the dish. They weren't busy, so they could have perfectly let us finish one dish before bringing the next.
And I must say that, for a ramen restaurant (at least by name), the ramen was the worst performer. 😢
The nigiris were large, good in terms of value, but not for putting the whole thing in your mouth in one go. The sweet and sour sauce offered for the tempura tasted like it came from a bottle. I may be wrong, of course. And the gyōza didn't come with its dedicated sauce.
All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I'll probably go back to try other dishes, but they have to try harder if they want to succeed in this...

I can say that it’s very hard to find good sushi and rolls on Gran Canaria, but they completely nailed it! And with such a reasonable price! Their rolls tastes as good as those at Fuji restaurant. I loved how fresh tasted the salmon. Although ramen wasn’t as good as the one you can get at Don Don ramen, it was very decent, way better than in Shifu. Here the ramen is quite light, it lacks a bit of a creamy taste, but overall good. I recommend ordering sushi and rolls to...
Read moreI don’t know where to start. The waiter, a young man, extremely rude, couldn’t even let me finish my sentence before turning his back and walking away.
The food I couldn’t even finish. I ordered Salmon Maki, there was 99% rice 1% salmon. I ordered the Yakisoba, and honestly it felt like I was eating leftover from last week. The ONLY plate that was acceptable was the Nigiri. We ordered around 12 plates and majority of them we barely touched.
From the reviews we saw, we decided to give it a try - waste of 40 euros.
PS: no photos because it was...
