There is a certain magic to dining al fresco in Málaga—a city where the light drapes itself lazily over cobblestones and the air hums with the promise of something delicious. At Casona Los Marangos, that magic takes the form of sizzling shrimp and effervescent sangria, a duo that feels both effortless and quietly iconic, like a perfect linen set on a sun-drenched afternoon.
The shrimp arrives in a flourish, still spitting and snapping from the pan, bathed in garlic and herbs so fragrant they perfume the air before the first bite. It is, quite simply, fantastic. The potatoes, however, are more of a blank canvas—underseasoned, but redeemed by a sauce that knows exactly what it’s doing.
And then, the sangria. It’s cold, sweet, and—if my developing palate serves me correctly—cut with Fanta, a choice I am beginning to understand is not a quirk but a tradition here in Málaga. It’s a sip of citrusy joy, a little irreverent, a little nostalgic, and absolutely the right move.
But Casona Los Marangos isn’t just about what’s on the plate; it’s about what’s happening around it. The patio is prime people-watching territory, a runway where locals and travelers alike drift past in the golden glow of early evening. And inside? A hostess who could teach a masterclass in hospitality—gracious, warm, the kind of presence that makes a place feel like home.
There is a tenderness to the service here, a kind of love woven into the way plates are set down, how glasses are refilled before you even notice they’re empty. It’s not just a meal; it’s a mood, a moment, a memory already soft around the edges.
Would I return? Without hesitation. Would I ask for extra seasoning on my potatoes? Absolutely. But Casona Los Marangos isn’t about perfection. It’s about charm, warmth, and the particular kind of joy that comes from shrimp that sizzles and sangria...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant on February 18, 2025 and enjoyed the food and service, despite the bad smells emanating from the services. A couple of days later we decided to go back with several friends. We made a reservation for six people and asked for a table away from the services. Even the person who took the reservation admitted that they had problems with their drains. Unfortunately the table we were given was the closest to the toilets and we could all smell the pestilence during our stay. The service and the food were not good enough to excuse the bad smell. I ordered the house burger which was totally dry, no mayonnaise, rocket or caramelized onions as listed. They didn’t even bother warming up the bread lightly on the grill. It is really difficult for me to comprehend that a company as big as Los Marangós does not worry about visiting other establishments, whether in Malaga or other cities, to compare what they offer and try to improve the menu and service. I'm convinced that they rely on the never-ending stream of tourist because I don't think they would have returning costumers. As for the pestilence, I believe that the city council of Malaga must do something about it for which I will make a complaint with the relevant...
