Opera Restaurante Pizzería — Restaurant in Maó

The food here is genuinely excellent – fresh, well-prepared, and full of potential. Unfortunately, the service ruins the entire experience.

On our first visit, it took over 30 minutes just to have a drinks order taken. Staff seemed disengaged, and the woman with short grey hair (who I believe is the owner) appeared more interested in fussing over large groups or select tables than in actually running consistent service. Smaller tables like ours were left waiting, feeling like an afterthought.

We gave it a second chance because the food was good enough to hope things might improve. Sadly, it was even worse. This time, after being passed over repeatedly – six times in total – we never even managed to place a drinks order before giving up and leaving. Watching staff walk past without acknowledging us while others were looked after made it impossible to justify staying.

It’s a real shame, because the location is prime and the kitchen clearly knows what it’s doing. But when compared to the other restaurants along the front – many of which offer not only excellent food but also warm, attentive service – this place falls embarrassingly short. In fact, the service here is easily the worst I’ve experienced on the island. Unless the management seriously addresses these issues, I can’t imagine it lasting...

Somos de la isla y somos de esas personas a las que no les importa pagar más por comer bien, y tampoco somos extremadamente exigentes. Supongo que por eso no miramos las valoraciones del restaurante "Opera". Ojalá pudiera escribir ahora que quedamos encantados y recomendarlo, pero mi consciencia me lo impide. Y es que la cena a la que fuimos tan ilusionados fue una gran decepción. El local es bonito. Éramos casi los únicos clientes, eso debería habernos alertado ya, pero no le dimos importancia. Pedimos pizzas, que llegaron bastante rápido. Para acabar de salir del horno, no estaban especialmente calientes, de hecho les habrían venido bien unos minutos más. La pizza 4 quesos era la más triste que he visto en mi vida. No solo la masa era gomosa como todas las pizzas de allí, sino que encima había solo un poco de queso y ya está. Ni un poquito de orégano o algo, estaba hecha sin nada de cariño. En la mesa la probaron todos, y se comparó con un "trapo viejo con queso". Para lo mala que era, 11 Euros me pareció un robo. El resto de pizzas no era mucho mejor, y el precio, parecido. Las bebidas, caras también. Después de ver lo malas que eran las pizzas, se nos quitaron las ganas de pedir postre o algo más, solo queríamos irnos de allí. A la encargada le contamos lo insatisfechos que estábamos, cuando preguntó qué tal todo justo empezábamos a comer. Se disculpó así por encima, argumentó que el horno no estaba suficientemente caliente y nos hizo una segunda pizza 4 quesos. Por un momento tuvimos esperanza, pero por desgracia era igual de mala que la primera. En serio, me gustaría decir algo positivo sobre el restaurante, pero la experiencia fue una de las peores que he tenido y solo puedo recomendar mantenerse alejado de él. We arrived late in the evening (10pm) and we were still seated within 5 mins. The atmosphere was fantastic as the place was full. We ordered the bread as we were both ravenous. The pizza main courses arrived shortly after we enjoyed the fresh bread. However the carbonara took 20 mins longer than the others as it had been forgotten. Once prompted the carbonara quickly arrived. The service was very good. The pricing was extremely reasonable. It was closer to traditional Italian food than you would receive in a similarly priced (if not slightly more expensive) UK chain. We would definitely...
