Cervezas Patanel — Restaurant in Madrid

Local brewery in Madrid with a great casual vibe. The food was excellent — we had Costillar de cerdo and Brioche de ternera, both absolutely delicious — and paired them with their own locally brewed beer, which was fresh and flavorful.

Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by our waitress. Her attitude and service left much to be desired. From the start, it felt like we were a bother to her. Getting her attention to order was nearly impossible, and when we asked for a second round of beers, she barely paused at our table — acknowledging us with a dismissive attitude as she walked away.

We had planned to stay for more beers and dessert — it was our pseudo-bachelor party the night before our friend’s wedding — but her demeanor was so unpleasant that we chose to pay the bill and take our celebration elsewhere.

Everyone can have a bad day, and I understand that. But this felt different. Whether it was just poor service or something deeper — perhaps even discomfort with serving four gay men simply out to enjoy an evening together — I can’t say for sure. I didn’t catch her name, and honestly, I was hesitant to order anything further.

This is the brew pub of Patanel, a local craft brewery. They have five to six of their own beers on tap, plus some guest beers now and then. Among the two I've tried, the Bourbon Oak is fantastic (if you're open to unusual flavors), while the IPA is somewhere in the no man's land between hoppy and fruity. The food menu offers both comfort food (e.g. burgers, pizza) and an eclectic selection of starters. All three dishes we ordered were good, albeit not fully convincing. The cornflake-crusted cod would have been better with more teriyaki sauce. The potato casserole with cecina was a rustic pleasure, but the BBQ chicken wings somewhat lacked flavor. Mi mujer y yo empezamos a ir nada más abrir el local, nos hemos dejado medio sueldo como buenos bebedores de cerveza, durante el confinamiento pusieron servicio a domicilio y comprábamos cajas, semana sí y semana también cuando la pandemia tenían dos turnos, reservamos para el segundo turno y cuando abrieron la puerta el señor zule uno de los socios nos dejó en la entrada a todo el mundo de pie y se perdió en la cocina 15 minutos yo tengo un problema de movilidad y voy con bastón o sea que a los cinco minutos me senté en una de las mesas cuando le apeteció salir de la cocina acomodó a los demás y me preguntó con muy malas formas que quién me había sentado a mí y le contesté que yo que estoy jodido y no puedo estar depies tanto tiempo, mis principios desde bien joven no porque ahora tenga más de 60 años son que no me traten mal en ningún sitio público dos veces, porque la primera que me lo hacen no vuelvo, pero nos gustaba tanto la cerveza que lo dejamos pasar, aunque lo peor estaba por venir, fuimos a comer y a la hora del postre nos tomaron nota y después de veinte minutos nos dicen que la cocina estaba cerrada, mi pregunta fue la siguiente la cocina llevaba cerrada 20 minutos que tiene delito o la acababan de cerrar que tiene más delito aún, apareció uno de los gemelos dueño también y me dijo que si hacía una excepción conmigo la tenía que hacer con los demás y le dije que yo no pretendía ningún trato de favor lo que pretendía que me explicaran si la cocina había cerrado hace 20 minutos o acababa de cerrar conclusión: cuatro muchachos con muy buena iniciativa con muy buena cerveza pero han tenido un fallo a mi juicio deberían de haber metido un profesional de la hostelería aunque solo sea uno y les enseñara a los demás porque están bastante perdidos, pero bueno el local lo tienen lleno y les sobran los clientes, no pasa nada.
