Restaurante Albahaca — Restaurant in Mijas

Really lovely meal, pleasant service and nice wine selections. We arrived fairly early and although there were few people in the restaurant, there were many reserved tables. We ordered two different white wines by the glass, both very good. For starters we had the Ox-tail croquettes (nice but could have had a little more ox-tail flavour to them), and the Mussels Marinara (a main but Jen wanted to try) I am not a fan but Jen said they were excellent and for my part, the sauce was very tasty. For the main course we had the mixed Paella for two. I have never been very keen on Paella but it seems I have never had it made properly, it was outstanding. Beautifully cooked and full of flavour. The scent of seafood, garlic and saffron hits you the second you enter this Malaga mainstay, which feels more like a friend’s hacienda than a restaurant. Colorful ceramic plates line the walls, the lighting is low and warm, and the tapas come out sizzling in delectable pools of garlic and olive oil. The paella is the focus, but we're smitten with the lengthy list of tapas: flavorful shrimp, grilled squid, simmered meatballs and more. By far the city’s most authentic in congeniality and ambience, Albahaca is a restaurant where we would be more than happy to enjoy a long lunch, take a siesta and then return for dinner the same day. I love a good Paella and this place has the best I have eaten in La Cala and the surrounding area. I do not like my Paella to be swimming in liquid at the bottom of the pan. I like my rice cooked properly and there is great flavoring to the food. This is the only place which will make a Chicken Paella and its delicious. I have been here several times and its been on point every time. I waited to eat here a few times before writing a review just in case the first meal was a fluke.
