During our recent visit to Gran Canaria, we had the unfortunate experience of dining at Taj Mahal, a restaurant that appeared promising based on its glowing Google reviews. However, the vast disconnect between the praise online and our own experience has us questioning the authenticity of those reviews.
Our order consisted of the Tandoori Chicken and Lamb Kebab, both staples of Indian cuisine. Given the restaurant's high ratings, we expected these dishes to be cooked to perfection, providing a tasteful burst of aromatic Indian spices. However, the reality was disappointingly different.
The Tandoori Chicken, although edible, lacked the vibrancy and flavor we anticipated. As for the Lamb Kebab, it was, regrettably, a total miss. It was not only tasteless but also seemed to have been marinated in the same Tandoori masala as the chicken, robbing it of its distinct, rich flavor profile. Worse still, the lamb had a strong, raw smell of ginger, indicating a flaw in its preparation.
Considering the quality of the food served, the €35 price tag felt exorbitant and unjustified. Our experience at Taj Mahal, Gran Canaria, was a letdown, and we strongly believe that potential diners should be aware of this before deciding to spend their hard-earned money here. It was truly a missed opportunity for what could have been a wonderful...
Read moreOur regular choice for Indian food was closed for refurbishment so we happened to stumble across this restaurant in Puerto Rico shopping centre. The poppadoms here are by far the most expensive I've come across at €1.50 per poppadom, having visited other similar restaurants during our stay.
The onion bhajis were crisp and served hot but the portion sizes left a lot to be desired in comparison to other Indian restaurants located close to this one. The chicken madras was nice and had a decent level of spice, as was biryani sauce. However if you love spice or have a decent tolerance to spicy food I would recommend trying out the other Indian restaurants in Puerto Rico shopping centre and Mogan mall.
In relationship to the service we decided to order two extra poppadoms to go with mains. The waiter brought them out and said you don't need more dips even though we had gotten through the first lot. Which surprised me given that we were paying for them.
All in all relatively average food when compared to others, in terms of price the value was good in places and too high on certain items. Take a good look at the menu...

Now, let's talk about the food. Every dish I tried was absolutely delicious! The flavors were rich, authentic, and perfectly balanced. From the aromatic spices to the tender meats and fresh vegetables, each bite was a true celebration of Indian cuisine. The sisler was a standout, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The man paired beautifully with everything, and the mixed kulfi was the perfect sweet ending to an unforgettable meal.
The quality of the ingredients was evident in every dish, and it was clear that a lot of care and attention went into each preparation. If you're a fan of Indian food or looking to try something new, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Highly...
