Booked this as a short getaway. Wasn't expecting much on the basis the property is a 2* (makes a change from our usual 4/5 hotel stays) We were pleasantly surprised by the size and cleanliness of the apartments. The maids changed our towels every 2 days and our sheets were changed also. The apartment didn't have a toaster but did however have a kettle, hob, microwave, grill ample size fridge freezer and utensils etc. The balcony was also a good size with chairs, table and clothes horse. The views from our apartment ( room 606) were fabulous, you could see the pool, sea and some mountains and the main centre too. I can't comment too much on the entertainment as we only saw a very short piece of it as we went out in the evenings. But it was located next door to the main entrance of the apartments. (The entertainment lady did have a short chat with us and she seemed very nice, we will definitely try and catch her 'shania twain' act next year). Next door to the evening entertainment was a shop to purchase essentials. There were always sun loungers available at the pool and the pool was an ok size too. The breakfast in Castillo del sol was very reasonably priced and was nice. The apartments themselves are a great central base for exploring Puerto Rico or for the more adventurous hiring a car and exploring more of the beautiful island (there is also parking available at the apartments). As previously mentioned - the apartments central location this can cause it to be a bit noisy at night time (however this isn't the fault of the staff or accommodation, & if you want a central accommodation you will hear this noise regardless of where you stay if you choose to be central) it didn't bother us & didn't wake us either. I must also mention the steps lol! There are a lot of steps to walk down into the centre it only takes 5 minutes to go down. But the walk up is a bit longer lol. Most people walked down and got a taxi up or alternatively you can walk the longer route missing the steps entirely but this does add extra time and is also hilly. Just so those with walking or mobility issues are aware. The staff we encountered during our stay were all lovely and helpful. We have now visited all of the Canary Islands and this is our favourite. There are ample restaurants to dine in and there is something to suit everyone's palette and pocket. The coastline is beautiful. Some excursions I would recommend would be the private hire boat trip (pre booking essential), the Dunes and the shopping centre is worth a visit too. I'd also recommend hiring a car and exploring all the island has to offer. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to do this. We have fallen in love with Gran Canaria and will most definitely be returning at the same time next year but staying 11 nights opposed to 5. I will attach some photos of the steps and some from our apartment. Thanks...
Read moreOn arrival which was late about 23:30 we were given keys to the room, on entering the room it was like a hot box, to find air con was not supplied unless we paid extra, said to my other half go and pay the extra I can’t sleep in this ( couldn’t open windows as music from the valley was loud to the point you could sing along) when he got down to the receptionist, he told him tomorrow you can have, surly these things should be accessible at any time, your a hotel. So my back was up straight away and no sleep. Also the air con is situated next to the kitchen so have to keep bedroom door open to feel the benifits. We had my 5 year old in our room which his bed was the sofa, It didn’t pull out nor could u pack it away so if you wanted to use the sofa you had to either in make his bed or sit on his sheets. The bathroom, when the shower was on it went past the glass screen and soaked the floor which ment you had to either leave the puddle that covered most of the bathroom floor or mop it up with the towels that only got changed every 3 days at best. The cleaning was very touch and go, cleaner would come in most days but only do certain things so there was always something dirty, balcony didn’t get swept the whole two weeks, so kids in out dragging in everything from out side, if they weren’t going to do these things at least provide a brush so we can do it our selves. Self catering hmm.... had no oven so can’t really cook evening meals. So had to eat out every evening. Very annoyed the extras you have to pay, WiFi 15 euro air con cost 100 euro with 30 euro deposit, if you wanted extra cleaning had to pay 20 euro and clean towels 10 euro. Should of definitely read more into hotel before booking wasn’t what I thought I was getting. One life guard took a particular dislike to my kids telling them off for jumping in the pool on the second week but they were doing the same on the first week and no issue. Also other kids and adults were jumping and nothing said to them. One of the female receptionist is very rude, my partner complained as the cleaner hadn’t empty our bin and her reply was there is the main bin under the entrance if you want to put it in there!!!! What!!! We are on holiday not to pick up after your cleaners! 😡 the first week was particularly loud and we didn’t spend to much time in the hotel during the day spent time at anfi beach which is better in my opinion the pureto rico beach quieter nice golden sand and nicer people.
On a positive the rooms are modern, the swimming pool in pleasant enough and there is always available sun beds.Lorraine the entertainer at the hotel is amazing lovely women and caters for all and goes out of her way to make you...
Read moreWe booked this hotel for a cheap getaway during the end of the summer holidays. The hotel is clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. ||There was six of us in our group and so we had two rooms booked and were able to get a connecting room which made everything a lot more easier and straight forward. ||Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. I think the rooms could do with a full length mirror somewhere. We had to pay extra for the air conditioning which was €25 per room for the duration of our 10night stay, but we opted to just pay for one and discovered that the remote turned on both air con units in the both rooms, so saved ourselves a bit of money. ||There is no ironing board or iron supplied in the rooms, luckily brought my own iron. ||In terms of location, it’s in the heart of the main food, drink and shopping area but has lots of steps to go down and back up. Walking down is fine but the in the heat walking up could be a bit tiring, a taxi back up to the hotel from the main area was only €3.75. ||The animation guy who was round the pool everyday was very good, friendly and great with the kids. Not pushy at all. ||We got up at around 9:30am to get a sunbed for when the pool area opened at 10am, these did soon get taken up. ||The food and drinks at the pool bar were really good value for money and affordable. The staff here were really nice, especially Dante! ||The rooms overlook the whole resort and have sea views with a very spacious balcony. ||There is a little shop just outside of the hotel which has all the essentials etc or there is a HypoDino supermarket at the bottom of the steps. ||The hotel attracts a lot of northern and Irish people who were all friendly. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it’s clean, spacious and a reasonably good location if you don’t mind the steps down. ||Overall for the price we paid, I felt it was a very good stay and value for money and would happily recommend. We booked via EasyJet Holidays and got a really good deal! Less than £450 each...
