This was a hard review for me. This is authentic Indian food, no doubt, with a large and varied menu from various regions of India, including Punjab offerings.
Both my wife and I love Indian dishes, and we have found it difficult to find a restaurant we truly love. This was our first visit, based on a recommendation by a friend.
For starters, we ordered both traditional and garlic naan, a vegetable salad with garbanzo beans, and meat samosas. The samosas were large and full of meat, but somewhat dry inside and not much flavor. The salad was excellent.
The garlic naan did not have much taste of garlic. And I had asked to add butter, of which there was liitle.
The naan came with 3 small helpings of sauces. The "hot" sauce was basically finely chopped onions with spices and pepper, but not very hot. There was also a mango sauce and some type of a yogurt sauce. Perhaps various chutneys were offered for additional cost. I did not notice that on the menu.
I had lamb dopiaza and ordered it medium hot. It was very spicy, which I like, but not so much that one loses the flavor of the food. The flavor was very good with large helpings of tender lamb. However, it was somewhat greasy.
My wife had Saag Paneer. It was excellent with large pieces of indian cheese. Also, medium hot and, again, just right for my taste.
We felt the service was good and the place seemed to be very clean. Helpings are generous and prices are reasonable.
As to atmosphere, there isn't much, as this location is adjacent to a roundabout in a fairly busy area near the train station and a large shopping center. But, again, it was very clean, and we came for the food, knowing in advance about the location.
We will go again at some time in the future and order...
Read moreUnfortunate to see the owner carry so much disdain toward actual feedback. Anyways, I shared a lot of similar experiences with user Avinav Parashar. Ordered my butter chicken and naan, and boy let me tell you, it was horrid. Plastic film was melted into the butter chicken, along with the garlic naan being insanely undercooked. It was damn near flappy, and doughy. Butter chicken was warmed up obviously, but the plastic film being molded into the butter chicken was downright disgraceful. Owner seriously doesn't understand the implications of microplastics interrupting hormones. It's like he wants the populace to be soy boys! I used to manage a kitchen for banquets, and no shot anything of my experience with Great India wouldn't have slid. I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine, but I really do think owners should contemplate about other avenues of work.
Additionally, while going to the bathroom, my friend saw a worker put his hands in his pants and scratched below, and EVEN continued to work. I have no clue what the work expectations are here but something like that is beyond me. McDonalds literally has "employee must wash hands" signs everywhere, but somehow that isn't the status quo at this establishment.
Would definitely avoid, but if you dare, please consider updating your immunizations and definitely wear ppe. Based on the reviews, it doesn't seem like I was the only one with this experience. And to the owner, please do better, I don't know you but I can definitely give you a lecture on sanitation and PROPER food preparation. Don't disgrace this wonderful...
Read moreAn honest American tourist review: If you’re looking to get out of the craziness of downtown Malaga and are tapa’d out, I highly recommend you stop by The Great India. It s a little out of way, but a pleasant 15-20 minute walk from the main Malaga shopping district. The restaurant looks uncertain from the outside but don’t let that fool you. It’s very pleasant inside and the staff are very warm in welcoming you. We’re huge fans of Indian food and this did exactly what we wanted and then some. Here’s what we ordered: Papadum they provide you a side of dips which were amazing (we loved this so much we asked for three orders) Garlic Naan (very delicious) Vegetable Korma sweeter, based on the coconut which was new to us, but it was so good Lamb Rohan Josh less creamier but more tomato in the sauce which was unexpected but very delicious, high recommend (Note: I asked for 9/10 spice and it was a medium level, at best). Saag Paneer less sauce based but still very good Rice (a la cart, not included with your meal) Gin and soda White wine (house was awesome) Overall, our experience at The Great India was excellent. One thing to add: the staff made our experience truly remarkable. Everyone was super nice and attentive to everything, you can tell they put pride into their food and establishment....
