La Mafia se sienta a la mesa — Restaurant in Orihuela

We dined at La Mafia on the 10th with our guests. We chose to eat here because we had dined here at least a dozen times in the past 6 months. The Food and service was always good. However, not this time.

We accept that restaurants slip up occasionally. But when they don’t take responsibility for their mistakes. It’s time to walk away.

We arrived and were seated and we waited a long time for a drinks order to be taken. But we were happy chatting.

Drinks finally arrived, and some 15 minutes later the order was taken by the server, whom I thought was the manager. We had met him many times on our previous visits. We ordered 3 starters and 4 main courses and a bottle of Rose.

After a long wait, maybe 20 minutes, two starters arrived, we waited again for about 5/6 minutes when I called a lovely waitress. I explained we were a starter short and no wine had arrived. She apologised and said the kitchen was under pressure. That’s ok. We understand.

She returned with the bottle of wine. Some ten minutes later my starter arrived, at which stage, everyone else’s were finished.

We ordered a second bottle of wine, as the table was being cleared of our starters. We waited 30 minutes, when 3 main courses arrived. We waited again 5/6 minutes, when I called a server and explained that my guest was forgotten. Her main course arrived approximately 15 minutes later.

The food was mediocre at best, the service was appalling. We decided to just leave after our main course and asked for the bill. The bill arrived rapidly, where we noticed we were over changed for a bottle of wine. I called the waiter/manager, and explained the overcharge and complained about the service. He completely ignored my complaint and went off to change the bill. No apology, No understanding. Nothing.

Disappointing considering the majority of reviews.

I’ve gave 2 stars which I would consider fair due to our experience. I’ll be straight to the point and not long winded. on arrival bald manager with glasses pretty blunt with us because we had not booked (noted those who had we observed got better treatment - more attentive waiting service, no delays with drinks and food, offered dessert option). So book lol. 23 minutes in we were offered drinks from one of the waiters, who was sound. eventually had our food orders taken (probs 40 mins in at this stage). Different waiter, seemed dead on aswell. had our food, plates and glasses empty, no one approached us for another 30 minutes. I asked the waiter for another drink. drinks arrives and by the time we have finished our second drinks (cokes nothing special) we are approaching 2 hours in to our experience at La Mafia, plates still on the table. I asked for the bill and honestly was the fastest they had been all night hahaha. Would not have minded a cheeky wee dessert to cleanse the pallet but the service was rubbish, we felt like a bother, didn’t really want to spend any more of my money in the place.

Overall really disappointed, I was with my wife and baby girl who was asleep in her pram, first meal out of the holiday. Hopefully no one else gets this kind of experience, maybe the bald fella is just having a bad...

If you're going for pizza, risotto or pasta, the food is good. As an Italian restaurant those things are nice.

However the salmon dish is disgusting, it's frozen fish and you can see the sea from where you eat, it's pathetic. It tasted weird and wasn't pleasant to eat. The service was bad, there was one gentleman who was nice, he did a good job. But all the waiters combined were slow. Also the manager and a waitress I found was rude. A waitress bought out our food despite our plates from the starters were still there, and started to argue that they're waiting for us to finish yet still put the food on the table, it is truly diabolical. It's simple standards.

And when it came to pay the bill, the fish wasn't nice so we weren't going to pay for it and we hadn't finished it, when we told the waitress they seem extremely annoyed by this, even seem pissed off and when the manger came over he snatched the bill out of our hand and adjusted it and we paid and left. I expected a lot better, this place was better but it's gone downhill. I definitely will not be going ever again!!

This review was going to get 3-4 stars but due to how the manager and waitress was at the end when it came to the bill, I had to knock it as it's not acceptable to be like that...
