Espiritu libre — Restaurant in Sóller

Found this place via google, seemed to have good reviews so thought we would head there.

When the 3 of us arrived early Thursday evening most of the tables at the front were already taken, but i could see empty tables at the back. We were told everything was reserved for that night, i asked if i could make a reservation for Friday or Saturday and was told there would be nothing available and maybe to come back Saturday and try reserving again. It all seemed a little strange, like there was some issue with us, that they didn’t want us there (we are just a mother and father travelling with our 27 year old son).

I thought i would give them the benefit of the doubt, and went back Saturday on my own to try reserving a again and was told again nothing available, i said can you do anything before Wednesday as that is when we are moving on, and was told come back and try again Thursday. At this point i got the message loud and clear.

I never usually leave reviews, but having looked at the one star reviews for this restaurant, i see i’m not the only one to have experienced this very peculiar attitude and with no explanation …..it really is...

Popped in for lunch during a break in our tour around the island. We were enticed by the brilliant reviews online and the unusual menu and fancied a break from the traditional food that was available in the town. So glad we popped in! Cocktails were delicious and having come from London the prices were reasonable, particularly for the quantity and quality of food and drink that is served.

The chorizo and falafel starters were delicious, large amount of perfectly cooked padron peppers with each. The chicken skewers for a main were spectacularly tender, the side salad with beetroot and vinaigrette delicious. The fries it came with were perfectly seasoned and crispy.

We appreciated the offering of salt and pepper to taste - though everything ate was perfectly seasoned. Everyone has personal preference and we appreciated that acknowledgement.

We were also provided with free drinks before and after the meal and the service was the best we have had on the trip so far.

Look forward to returning...

Lunch. The service was excellent, the waiter offered a special of the day (which we ended up ordering) and he was always present but still kind of in “the background”, he speaks for sure English and French. The food was so tasty, we ordered mussels and specialty of the day (eggplant with mozzarella, which was recommended by the waiter), both of delicious. It’s true the portions (especially the mussels) could be bigger (because it was sooo tasty ) but we were not leaving hungry. Shout out to the salat&fries with the eggplant, trop Miami.

We got also welcome drink (non alcoolique limonade) which was so refreshing (ey 34dgr that day) .

The place is easy accessible, very close to the main tourist rue but in the same time to crowds around.

The ambiance was normal restaurant-y, but we came not in the peek hour .

Definitely worth it. 30eur for 2 persons who lasted full for the rest of the day. We will recommend this place to out friends and we will come back, especially...
