Food was good, service was absolutely atrocious.
We stood outside waiting to speak to someone for 7 minutes, ignored by servers who came in and out quickly, despite us trying to ask for a table. We had to go inside to get someone to seat us. We then waited 20 minutes for a menu, and 20 more to get served. We weren't ahead for drinks first, and drinks arrived when the food did, a further 30 minutes later. Nearly 90 minutes to get food is really poor, and nobody apologised or told us there was a wait. We felt totally ignored and unwelcome and debated leaving.
Once food was served, it was of excellent quality and reasonably priced. The mixed grill proved a great choice, served over hot coals. However the chicken was massively overcooked and I couldn't eat it as it was dry as the desert. The rest of the food however was very good and the side salad was huge.
We weren't asked if we wanted any more drinks (we did) and felt thirsty and frustrated throughout. We wanted to mention it but staff wouldn't come over when we tried. We sat with empty plates for over 30 minutes before we got seen again, and asked for the bill, afraid we'd be ignored for too long if we didn't ask then. We left the restaurant over 2.5hours after arriving, despite only ordering one course and one drink and there being just two of us.
Disappointing service let down...
Read moreIn relation to the other restaurants along the beach it is one of the better ones. Food and service are generally OK. The direct view onto the beach, as with other places here, is of course amazing.
The Chorizo tastes good, but you get exactly one served with a hard, dry piece of bread. The empanadas also come in servings of one (really?), but are otherwise quite good. The burger wouldn't win prizes for me, but it's enjoyable; just missing some flavor, plus I'm personally not a fan of the thick, floppy, chewy strips of bacon and would rather have crisp bacon, but that's how every place around here serves bacon.
Cocktails were a big letdown here. Half the glass was foam (... in a cocktail!), and just not very good. Unfortunately I found it difficult to find good cocktails in the area, and I don't understand why it is so hard to mix a decent drink.
If you want a decent meal and a great view, El Gaucho is well worth visiting. If you want amazing food, there are better places, unfortunately without the...
Read moreI was very hopeful as it states it's an Argentinien restaurant. We ordered the big goucho platter for almost 80€. We asked for medium rare. The big steak was medium rare but quite flavourless while the whole rest of the platter was well overcooked, dry and chewy. We gave up trying to eat it because our jaws ached. The only sauces available were ketchup and mayo. I don't know if they had garlic, chimichurri or peppercorn sauce as they didn't ask if we wanted it. They said they'd bring my childs (16 months) food out first which was thoughtful. However they forgot to even bring it even after they served us. I had to go and ask. We had to ask for the bill twice after they forgot. It was an expensive disappointment and I can't recommend it. Also there is just 1 toilet for men and 1 for women, I had to wait in a que to go which is not fun when you're desperate. The only thing that was nice was the cocktail...
