The one positive of this restaurant was the first waitress, who seemed nice. Everything else... Oof. We had been coming here since 2018, so I feel I can comfortably say that this restaurant has lost itself (and my patronage). Our group of 5 went for lunch at around 1pm, so barely anyone in the restaurant. For starters, they had no brisket, which was one of the main reasons we stopped here in the first place. Nevermind. We ordered the fish and chips, the ribs, the chicken paella, the wagyu burger, and the gluten-free pizza. And then we waited. The fish and chips was the first plate to arrive after a good 30 minutes, with a piece of fish that must have weighed about 75 grams before it was cooked. And when I say cooked, I'm being nicer than the chefs deserve. This semi-battered fish-stick was served in wax paper, so it was both impressively soggy and undercooked, and served on top of store-bought chips that were equally moist. Yes. Moist. Ah, and let's not forget the coleslaw, featuring unseasoned whipping cream in lieu of mayo. Well OK then. Shortly thereafter came the burger, served on a piece of flotsam barely the width of the burger itself, thus spilling beef juice all over the show. #WeWantPlates. This was apparently the one item of food that was worth eating, although it came with the same sad chips and coleslaw combo. Some 10 minutes later, the ribs arrived, and contrary to the fish and chips -- which was essentially enough food for exactly 12 ants -- the ribs could have fed our entire family... If they hadn't been at least a day old and dry as a insert rude joke here. Again, served with an attempt at coleslaw that goes against every holy (and the Geneva convention). Another 5 minutes later and the chicken paella turns up, and could probably feed maybe 12 more ants, but only if they'd filled up on bread and fizzy drinks first. Counting the grains of rice wouldn't even be enough to put you to sleep. And the chicken -- what little there was -- was dry, which appears to be the chefs' speciality. Another 5 minutes go by and a waiter pops up to inform me that they'd accidentally made a non-gluten-free pizza and were having to remake it. It's been 50 minutes since we ordered, the rest of the table has since turned off their tastebuds and powered through (that'll teach us for not having breakfast) but OK, I'll wait for the version that won't poison me, please and thank you. Another 15 minutes later and something vaguely resembling food is placed in front of me -- yay, pizza! Oh no... Raw pizza. This pizza is white. I realise that GF flour can be a bit pale, but this pizza looks like it's seen a ghost, but also IS a ghost. I wait a couple of minutes for the waiter to come back and ask if he can take it back to the kitchen and cook it a bit longer. A whole minute later, one of the chefs opens the back door to the kitchen, right beside our table, kicks the chair that was propping the door ajar at our table, and slams the door closed. I'm not even exaggerating. A few minutes later, the waiter brings back my pizza, but this time it's burnt to a crisp. No half-measures here. At this point, I've given up and am questioning all the life choices that have led me here, so ask for the bill, and they kindly comp the pizza that arrived almost 1 hour and 30 minutes after we ordered, and 1 whole hour after the first of our 5 meals were served. All this to say that, if you are hungry, if you have food intolerances, if you like coleslaw that doesn't taste like it should be drizzled over a pie, or even if you just like food at all, then don't bother...
Read moreI don’t think excellent is a good enough word to describe Different. The food is just amazing and the cocktails just as good! The quality, service and presentation were spot on every time we ate there. They have learnt their craft to an exceptionally high level and delivered it well every single time. However, it was the care the staff took of me personally that really set them apart from anywhere I visited in Majorca. Different was the only place we visited that seemed to truly understand the seriousness of my severe fish allergy (a touch allergy). The care they took of me was outstanding, well above and beyond expectations, especially at a busy holiday resort. There wasn’t one member of staff that wasn’t fabulous - so friendly and helpful. We tried a few other places during our stay and I had an allergic reaction from one of them. We came back to Different every night of our holiday after that as it really was the only place I felt safe enough to eat. Money can’t buy that kind of care and attention and I can’t thank them enough, I honestly would have been in a very difficult position without them. Every single member of staff was so friendly, kind and caring, it was such a refreshing change to the usual service I experience. Thank you doesn’t cover how grateful my daughter and I were to you all but thank you to the whole team for taking such good care of us - we will definitely be back next time we visit Cala d’or! Even without the allergy situation, the food so is excellent that Different is an absolute must visit restaurant for anyone...
Read moreA Meal to Remember! Truly "Different" and Absolutely Worth the Journey. My wife, Sara, and I decided to take a trip down to Cala d'Or from our home in Alcudia last Thursday evening, specifically to visit "Different". We had done a bit of research on Google Maps beforehand, and the restaurant looked promising. I am delighted to say it exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. A very helpful and welcoming waitress showed us to our table, and we had a moment to take in the surroundings. The restaurant itself is stunning, with a beautiful design both inside and out that creates a wonderful atmosphere. As lovely as the setting was, the food was undoubtedly the main event. We both opted for dishes from their oriental-style menu. I chose the Pad Thai, which was fresh, flavourful, and absolutely amazing. However, the real star of the show was my wife's belly pork. She was completely blown away, declaring it the best meal she has had in over 20 years of living in Mallorca! That is high praise indeed, and it was clear to see why – the presentation was superb and she savoured every single bite. It is safe to say that our trip was a resounding success. "Different" offers a fantastic dining experience with exceptional food and great service in a beautiful setting. We will certainly be returning the next time we are in the area. Highly...
