If you want authentic flamenco, then this is it! This is actually a social club, which strives to maintain the traditional art of flamenco music and dance. Most of the audience were elderly Spanish connoisseurs and the atmosphere wonderfully reverent and appreciative. The band of three singers and a guitarist were outstanding - almost like a jazz group in their (often vocal) appreciation of one another's solos and their obvious passion about their art. The dancer - Emilio Casteneda - was wonderful. I have never seen anything like it for perfection, passion and intensity. A few practical points: you can't buy tickets in advance but must queue outside for when they go on sale at 8pm. Get there early since most seats are reserved for club members so you need to get in and reserve yours with a coat or bag. Once in, you can't go out again before the performance begins at 9.30pm so you have to eat and drink in their cafe/bar. Wouldn't have missed it for the world. The commercial flamenco venues offer a totally different kind of...

Come early with an appetite and thirst and support the club by enjoying pre-show tapas. The front row seats will be reserved for club members, but many guests reserved seats in the theatre by leaving a small object on the chosen seat while they dined in the courtyard.

Read moreA wonderful community who organises flamenco performance! You really feel close to the artists and the courtyard and bar bring a very convivial atmosphere.
It's a great way to discover authentic flamenco, far from tourist attractions, with an enthusiastic crowd.
Try visiting or calling ahead to get reservations, as most seats are reserved for the member of the association, or show up very early. They may let you stand at the bar if all the seats are occupied, but you can still enjoy the performance from there.
Bravo to the team of Peña Cultural Flamenca, for creating such a...
