Twice in one week!
Mumbai Indian Restaurant located right on the seafront, and I must say, it was a delightful culinary experience that compelled me to return twice in one week.
First Visit: I opted for the Chicken Madrass, Saag Aloo, and Garlic Naan. The Chicken Madrass was a standout dish—rich and fragrant with the perfect amount of heat that tickled the taste buds. The tender pieces of chicken were steeped in a beautifully spiced sauce, making each bite a flavour explosion. The Saag Aloo complemented the dish wonderfully, with its smooth spinach blend and hearty potatoes bringing a comforting touch. The Garlic Naan was the cherry on top; warm, fluffy, and infused with just the right amount of garlic, it was perfect for mopping up the leftovers of the Madrass sauce. The service was attentive and friendly, and the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant added to the overall experience.
Second Visit: Much to my delight, I returned to the restaurant a few days later for another feast. This time, I chose Chicken Tikka, Tarka Dhal, and a side portion of chips. The Chicken Tikka did not disappoint; it was marinated to perfection, grilled to a tender char, and bursting with flavour—a classic that lived up to its reputation. The Tarka Dhal was creamy and comforting, with a lovely smokiness that elevated this humble dish to new heights. As for the chips, they were surprisingly good and added an interesting twist to the meal, serving as a light and crunchy side.
My friend on both occasions ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala it arrived in a vibrant, aromatic sauce that promised depth and flavour. The dish was generously portioned, showcasing tender pieces of chicken that were marinated and cooked to perfection. The sauce was rich and creamy, with a balanced mix of spices that didn't overpower but rather enhanced the overall taste. (they also give you the option of how hot you like it) It had just the right amount of heat, making it accessible to those who may not be used to spicy food while still satisfying those who enjoy a good kick.
The ambience remained cheerful, with the distant sound of waves crashing adding a touch of serenity to the dining experience. The staff was once again attentive and eager to ensure everything met expectations. In conclusion, my experiences at the Mumbai Indian Restaurant were marked by flavorful dishes that showcased a blend of authentic Indian spices while embracing a modern dining vibe. Pair this with the scenic seafront location, and you’ve got a restaurant worth returning to. I highly recommend it to anyone craving delicious Indian cuisine...
Read moreOur waiter tried getting me to leave a positive review on Google maps before he would give me the bill. After our meal I was totally confused by all the rave 5 star reviews, but after the experience I just had it suddenly makes sense. The waiters coax you into leaving a positive review in front of them. I refused.
As far as the food goes, it wasn't bad by any means, but very far from the best Indian I've had in PDC. Perhaps we chose poorly (Hyderabad Chicken & Chicken Passanda). They may have nicer options. It was a little bland, but had some nice heat (we both asked Medium heat, definitely more tourist medium, so not very spicy 🔥).
Portion wise it's on the smaller side. A little disappointing at their price point for sure. However not a complaint from me.
Before the mains they have us poppadoms and dips. The dips were actually lovely. The red chilli onion dip has a good kick!
My biggest issue was the beer. It tasted off / sour. I pushed through the first pint thinking it was just a bad pour, but then the second pint was much much worse to the point of being undrinkable. I said this to the waiter when I asked for my bill. Initially he said I should have told him earlier and he could have replaced it for me. I told him I was only letting him know and I wasn't asking for anything. At this point he offered to replace it, but I wasn't expecting anything different third time around, so I declined.
Overall disappointing given the stellar...
Read moreLooks nice and inviting. I'm sure they keep people waiting in their seats to make the place look busy and inviting. BUT the Food is a little on the bland side although you can ask for the dishes to be spicy or milder as you like. We ordered lamb jalfrezi , dishes on the small side and not like a jalfrezi we have had in many places before, this was just a lamb curry with some peppers thrown in. We had chicken pakora and onion bhaji starter. The pakora were like chicken goujons and the onion bhaji flat with not a lot of flavour. The garlic naan bread was so thin , nothing like a nice just cooked naan bread . Asked for bill and was offered a shot on the house , 20 mins later I had to go up and pay no one came to our table with the bill or a complimentary shot. Would not return, felt like they would do all they can do get you in the restaurant, but after that not very attentive. And portion sizes small for the cost.
You can only make your own mind up, but if you have eaten in some good Indian restaurants in the UK this is not going to come close. I really cannot understand some of the positive reviews. I have tasted more flavour from a microwave curry. Don't believe the good reviews. Read the negative ones and you will see the same things come up over and over . But hey it's your money...
