By sheer fortune we landed in this fantastic little tapas bar. We had stopped in Matagoria, in a different tapas bar but found the prices there rather expensive for each dish, so moved on to this place. And both wifey and hubby were very grateful for the divine intervention. The price here per tapas dish is just under €6, where the other Cafe was charging nearly double this. And I have to say all of the tapas dishes that we tried were fantastic. It's even hard to rate each dish from best to worse, as they all hit a very high standard. The prawns, The battered fried squid, The meatballs, The padron peppers, The canarian potatoes... All of it was moorish. We would certainly go back and try more dishes, as some of them look very interesting on the menu. However sometimes our eyes deceive My stomachs and we cannot physically fit all of that good stuff in. These dishes look really authentic, and believe us when I say yet again, are extremely delicious as well. But next time we'll have to try them. Also the coffee's here are actually very strong and a nice ending to the meal. We visited on a second occasion but this time we had to try more standard plates. Consistency is strong here so it's easy to recommend, as you know you are getting a standard each time. Hubby went for the spaghetti bolognese. And wifey tried the octopus salad. Both dishes were fantastic as well. Wifey absolutely enjoyed her salad. And hubby tried a few pieces and they were actually delicious. The spaghetti bolognese was a simple dish that can often be lacking in lustre... But not this one, one of my favorites of Lanzarote. The staff is really nice and you get the family run business vibe from them. You have the Son server, Uncle server, Auntie chef, Mama Bar, and Dad server. All friendly except the Dad, who gives off serious Godfather vibes. I don't mean to say he is rude by any means. But serious, I wouldn't dare criticise the place lest he shows me where the fishes sleep. Just a no nonsense kind of guy, and I can respect that. If you are in the area, try the tapas. This place has some exotic dishes for the Western pallet. Surf you're feeling experimental, definitely worth the try. Great food and great...
Read moreAvoid, they will try to scam or take advantage of you here! My 79 year old parents are in Lanzarote for a few weeks. They visited La Barrica and found the food good and staff friendly, so returned numerous times. Unfortunately a waiter took advantage of them on Saturday night and sold them a €72 bottle of wine, without telling them the price. They were not shown a wine menu and would not have taken it if they knew it was that expensive. They queried the bill at the end and after some arguing over and back, they took €4 off the bottle of wine...they paid €67.95 for it! They found the same wine in a restaurant nearby, on the following night, for €38! They won't be returning! To follow up from my review from my 79 year old parents. The owner responded suggesting my parents were told the price of the wine and agreed to it. This is not true. He also claimed they were sold a bottle of Reserva wine and not Crianza, I will attach the photo to show it was a crianza. If the owner would like to get in touch with me to refund the difference in price between the crianza and the reserva, my parents would appreciate that. And maybe don't try to take advantage of...
Read moreI turned up with my wife and two young boys. We waited to be asked what we'd like to drink - nothing. Then the waiter arrived to ask for our food order. I told him we'd like to order drinks first. When they arrived, it wasn't right. Then we waited for our food - in the meantime, we watched the locals get first class service, and their food arrived straight away. More time passed... then the entertainment to detract us from our rumbling stomachs was watching the head waiter chatting up a couple of attractive young women who had turned up for a nice meal. Then the original waiter came to apologise for the wait because there was 'a problem in the kitchen'. Finally, just before my youngest son fell asleep, the food arrived. It was half decent, I suppose, but by then, I was way too angry to enjoy it. Oh, and when I complained about the wait to the head waiter, the story had changed. Our waiter had 'forgotten to tell the kitchen our order'. So, basically, very poor...
