This restaurant is in a great location set above a supermarket with a large sunny terrace with fantastic seaviews. There are also 2 rooms inside, a more formal restaurant area and a bar / entertainment room which has televised football and some excellent evening cabaret.
It's a family owned and run business and after coming a few times I could see the difference between the majority of staff who put their heart and sole into their work and a few that plainly only see it as a job of work, because of this service varies between red hot and friendly and casual and slow. I have to give a special mention to the lady in the attached photo, whenever she was working the whole place came to life and the service was excellent.
I tried a number of meals here, Grilled Chicken (15.95€}, Beef and Ale Pie (16:50€) and the Spinnaker Breakfast (9.95€) (pictures attached). I found that all the meals were well presented, very tasty and appeared to use top products.
I did however find the pricing of a number of items on the menu to be just the wrong side of "reasonable" and looking back at previous menus it seems that over the last 3 years prices have markedly increased (e.g. 14 months ago the small breakfast was 5:50E and it is now 7:95E). This might explain why a lot of customers request the menu then decide not to eat, maybe if the daytime menu was limited to a wider range of cheaper bar meal / snack type items and the finer dining ones were only available in the restaurant at night when customers are looking for a more formal meal things might improve.
The above are intended to only be constructive observations not criticisms, taking everything into account I happily overlooked the "issues" I have mentioned as I found the Spinnaker strangely addictive and I ended up coming here...
Read moreWe had quite a bad experience here last week. We were served by a man with the Northern Irish accent with glasses. To give some context, there was around 12 of us that came into the restaurant to get breakfast. My cousin ordered a fry off the man and apparently made a mistake in calling it an Irish breakfast. The server snapped back and told her she should call it a Spinnaker breakfast. I myself, called it an English breakfast and I got the same crass mini-lecture. It was completely embarrassing. During the entire process of the meal, we felt very uncomfortable, as the server was ignoring us and slamming down our drinks. I get that it was busy but there was no need for it. The worst part of the experience was when the server snapped at my aunt and uncle because they couldn't decide quick enough if they wanted food and not just drinks. We had young kids at the tables and didn't want to made a scene in-front of them. Lastly, when getting the cheque, he continued to get rude and abrupt. I held a 20e note in my hand at the counter and he then placed the cheque on the table and snapped "it's actually 23 you owe". To be honest, it's a total shame because the food was amazing (hence I gave 2 stars). We are on holiday in Lanzarote and didn't ask for a Irish history lesson. I'm from the south of Ireland -- I have relatives and friends living in the north. It doesn't matter where you're from! His attitude was so unnecessary and unjustified. It's a restaurant -- If he wanted to lecture people cultural appropriation then try getting in touch with everyone at the Stormont...
Read moreWent here last year, I was told by the owner that the place got a lot of bad reviews and we were pressured to leave a good review. Over our stay last year we did enjoy the food so left a good honest review. I was looking forward to going for our first meal there today and we were hugely disappointed. Service was awful. Food was shocking. Curry sauce was lumpy. Steak sandwich was like grated steak on dry bread. My partner went into the men’s bathrooms and caught one of the bar men sniffing. He was then clearly out of it while serving us and made a comment about meeting my partner in the bathroom. It was like they got their few good reviews and let the place go. Would really not...
