I'll be as constructive as I can. We got invited to this place for a celebration and had big-ish expectations considering the location and the looks. We also had a 4yo with us.
Food-wise it was a big overpriced let down for us, followed by an indigestion. The hyped aubergine starter with goat cheese was just that - chonky slices of aubergine topped with goat cheese and for some reason the caramelized onions. It had to be a big portion simply to justify the huge €15 price tag as there is not much else going for it (guys, please do something with this starter, it's awfully bland and has no texture to it). Moving on to the mains. Fish of the day - decent albeit a bit too dry and a tad bit too salty (compensating for the starter I suppose). Seafood fettuccine in tomato sauce was a bit of a fiasco as well. I'm not entirely sure how one can mess up a simple dish like that. I'd remove it from the menu and replace it with pasta a la vongole/mussels because this was not great. On top of that, when asked if we could have half a portion of it for a 4yo, the waiter stated that "probably not as it's not that big". It was big. It could easily be split into two. Our kid barely halved it. And considering there is nothing else kid-sized on the menu, we paid the full €14.50 for that abomination. Then the cod with cheese and tomato sauce. I don't know what's the deal here with the tomato based sauces but they are just not great. It was just a mess on a plate, a mix of decent ingredients that didn't want to work together. Lastly, just an advice to the waiting staff as they seem to get a lot of attention here in the reviews. A bit more involvement wouldn't hurt. Like, asking if everything is fine, offering another drink (I sat with an empty glass for an hour just wondering if I ever get an offer - nope, had to fetch it myself). Having quilts for the colder evenings would also help, our kid was freezing (it's February and evenings can be a bit nippy). Ultimately there's a lot to be desired and the place has potential but for now I'd pick something else...
Read moreWe were staying next door at the Hotel Hacienda (def recommend) and thought we would walk over to try this restaurant for dinner. We did not have a reservation (our fault) but upon arrival the woman who greeted us couldn’t have been more rude. She advised us our only option would be the rooftop bar area (which is quite nice) but despite the bar being on top of the kitchen area they only offered a VERY limited 5 total options. There was literally only one table occupied downstairs so even if they were holding the other tables for reservations they could have offered more than 5 choices in total from their menu upstairs. Honestly it was less about the options and more about how rude and unwelcoming the staff was - totally unnecessary but based on other reviews would appear we were not alone in being...
