Mcguinness Bar — Restaurant in Torremolinos

The worst thing you can do in any bar is make the customer feel unwelcome, and yesterday that's exactly what our family was made feel by a very sharp, rude and unhappy member of staff.

We have visited this bar on a previous trip to watch gaa matches as a couple and thought it was a suitable place to bring the kids (14,11) this time to watch the hurling. We bought a round of drinks and settled in for the first game, my wife and daughter decided to go for a walk of the marina and return for the second game. Me and my son had another drink each before my wife returned with my daughter.

It was extremely hot out so they had purchased two bottles of water which were over half finished at this point and my daughter who is 11 years old was drinking hers as she was thirsty from the heat. We were discussing what they wanted to drink when the server went out of her way to come out from behind the bar to ask in a sharp tone "will you be ordering drinks" . We said ye of course and ordered two coke for my wife and son and the server then said my daughter could not have that here, I asked could she just finish it cause it's just water and she's very hot and it's not far from finished to which the reply was "No she can't, we have water here. I don't make the rules but I stick to them". It was a total misread of the situation by the server and was noticed by the other customers who commented to us about it.

The couple beside us were shocked and approached us and recommended Mulligan's cause it was more child friendly and indeed they left themselves out of disgust with the overall tone and attitude towards and kid drinking water when hot. We also left the establishment, we came here first on the recommendation from a Kilkenny publican way back in 2006, needless to say we won't be passing on that recommendation.
