Update December 2022
I have just changed this to a 5 star rating. We have been back several times now and each waiter was bilingual. Two lovely young boys and a Hungarian waitress, so no problems communicating. The food is always spot on, vegan roast, vegan brownie and vegan icecream and of course the meat and fish and chips that my husband so enjoys. We now feel so comfortable there that we have invited the Spanish side of the family and they all loved it. Thank you for taking the feedback I left into account, it really is an excellent place.
Original review: 4 star rating
Nice food but I wouldn't recommend this for Spanish people as the staff are Irish and can't speak Spanish. There is a Spanish menu but the staff can't give instructions on how to follow the new safety rules regarding Covid procedures.
We had booked for 3pm but had an accident on the way, arriving 25 minutes late. The pompous gentlemen on the door scolded us and said we would have to leave before 5pm as he had another booking (Lockdown, so restaurant had to close at 6pm). Fair enough, but there were lots of empty tables and in the end we stayed later than 5pm as the food took ages to serve, and nobody showed up to sit at our table.
So after an uncomfortable start we were shown to our table. We ordered and were told we would be advised when we could go to the buffet. After a very very long wait, empty plates were placed on our table, but nothing said. After about another 15 minutes the waitress told us that we could go to the buffet as we had our plates! We went to the buffet, our empty were plates taken off us and the vegan nut roast handed over. Surely it would have been easier just to bring it out to us rather than just giving us empty plates! None of the waiters spoke Spanish (with my husband) and us English didn't know what to do either! There was a bilingual gentleman serving behind the buffet, perhaps they could allow him to serve tables as he speaks both languages.
Once we eventually got our food (after an hour and a half), it was all very yummy. I suppose that if we did go back again we would know what to do, but felt very lost and very uncomfortable about being late, still shaken up from the accident! The restaurant is beautifully decorated, much larger inside than expected and has vegan options. It is close to the beach for a nice...
Read moreWe had Sunday dinner here. Travelled all the way from plaza mayor. I didn’t find the girl at the front desk very alluring. Even though she did accommodate us for a meal, we had to be out by a certain time we were told because the table was reserved….we agreed and knew we’d be done in time. All the same though, I don’t like being pressed into anything but it was their turf we were on and I knew if I said anything, it would be a long travel back without experiencing the food.
I was looking forward to a good Irish/English style roast dinner…. More’s the pity, it wasn’t really either…just a parody of same. We like boiled bacon and in the uk, they like roast bacon…for me it was way….way too salty. The beef didn’t seem like it was good quality aged beef. The spuds(potatoes) were just paste….uuuhhh….gravy was nice, frozen peas are frozen peas so no plus there. Yorkshire pudding was nice but far too thick. There’s no shortage of what they’ll put on the plate for you but if you’re going to do that, give a plate that all the food can stay on…. Overall, €63.70 for 2 starters, 2 carvery dinners and 2 cokes is not a bargain. In Ireland I can get 2 carvery dinners for €24 alone…need to do better…. We didn’t go back. I like a small amount of salt but on the parts that matter….not just poison the...
Read moreThey pride themselves on being a “family restaurant”, but yet discriminate against me, a breastfeeding mother - not once, not twice but three times. More fool me for keep going back. After being told to “cover up” by the manager or “go feed her in the toilet” by a server - when I had nothing on show - it left a bad taste in my mouth. No pun intended. The manager said that they had received a bad review in relation to breastfeeding, so she took the initiative to make me feel awful for the duration of my meal. I was shaking the whole time.
The owner came over and said she is trying to please everyone, although she really really really upset me and my family. Bad excuses, bad service, at least the food is good.
If this was in England, I would make a formal complaint on the basis of discrimination and harassment!
I won’t be going back, because we want to spend our hard earned money on a restaurant that VALUES us as customers not make them feel uncomfortable and shaky from almost the minute they sit down. I didn’t walk out because my family was eating but I couldn’t wait to leave! They kept apologising once I told them we were not coming back and that we were going to leave an honest review!
If you are a breastfeeding mother - DO NOT BOTHER GOING HERE! Spend your money...
