Just when I thought every place in Tossa was a tourist trap I found this gem. Portal is one of the most spectacular eating experiences I’ve ever had. We showed up right before opening and caught the staff having dinner together; this has to be one of the strongest indicators of greatness in a restaurant and what followed confirmed this and more.
Highly innovative, flavorful, and breath taking dishes all the way through. We started with their perfected take on patatas bravas followed by an octopus brioche that was out of this world. The off menu special of stingray bao buns made me nostalgic for places I’ve never been. The calamari, sweetbreads and mushrooms over a celery root puree brought literal tears to my eyes. If I had to transform into a plate of food this would be it. If I had to ask for a last meal; this would be it. My whole life flashed before my eyes as I contemplated the best ratio of each ingredient only to find each variation to be just as good or better than the last. The off menu dessert soup consisting of white chocolate, passion fruit and cream cheese with fresh and dried figs topped with a thin layer of empanada skin was a taste from heaven.
If you think I’m exaggerating go there yourself and you’ll likely find me there. My trips to Spain will no longer be complete without stopping by Portal. Sending all the love in world to...
Read moreWe had high expectations of this place before we went in because of the reviews. However, we were disappointed by it. Once we sat down, the waiter told us that we can only order once. We could not order again if wanted to have more dishes, even though this is a tapas bar. Pretty weird for a tapas bar! The ceviche was good, the croquettes were good, but the octopus was terrible. The octopus was in a hotdog bun with egg salad. The egg salad taste was not good at all, and the single small octopus tentacle was chewy. The duck cannolis were terrible also because the duck had a very weird very intense smoky taste, not like the smoky taste you would expect, that overwhelmed everything else. The cream with pistachio was good, however, it was very small. In general, all the dishes were very small, even though they were expensive. For this price, you have a lot of other restaurants in Tossa that are much better than this. This restaurant doesn’t live up to the reviews up far. It may have been better before, but probably the fame got into their head. We would not go...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised to discover such a unique and refined restaurant in the heart of Tossa de Mar’s old town, an area typically saturated with generic tourist spots. Tucked inside a beautifully restored historic home, the space exudes charm with its tasteful décor and airy ambiance, thanks to its high ceilings and natural light.
What sets this restaurant apart is its creative menu, featuring a thoughtful selection of both seafood and meat dishes that go well beyond the usual repetitive coastal fare. The focus is clearly on quality over quantity—portions are modest but crafted with care, and ordering two dishes per person is just right for a satisfying meal.
The presentation, flavors, and atmosphere reflect a level of sophistication that’s rare in such a tourist-heavy area. Best of all, the pricing is surprisingly fair considering the high standard of both food and service.
Photos of the dishes and the June 2025 menu are attached for a better glimpse into this...
