Bar Cabanyal — Restaurant in Valencia

Unfortunately we didn’t have a pleasant time here. We went as a group of four and ordered several tapas to share for dinner. The food itself is ok and they have some nice wine selection. I also liked the decoration of the place. However, the worst was the service, such a rude waitress! When we made the reservation, nobody told us that we only have a certain time slot, neither did they when we arrived. It seemed that there time management is really poor. At one moment she pushed us to leave the place and just dropped the bill and came with the terminal to pay. Even though we were not finish yet and wanted to order more things. Me senté con dos amigas en una mesa tras preguntar al dueño si nos daba tiempo a tomar una cerveza, nos dijo que si. Nos sentamos, nos sirvió 3 jarras de cerveza, se cobró y un minuto más tarde nos levantó de la mesa de malas maneras con las jarras casi llenas diciendo que tenía que recoger las mesas. Nos tocó engullirlas en tres tragos e irnos. Fue muy desagradable. Otro día un amigo me dijo que quería ir a la hora del aperitivo porque le habían hablado muy bien del bar y aunque no me hacía ninguna gracia ir finalmente accedí y nos sentamos en una mesa de la terraza que no tenía ningún cartel de reservado. Nos atendió el dueño preguntando si queríamos comer. Le dijimos que de momento queríamos dos cervezas y pediríamos algo de picar para ir abriendo boca. Entró dentro, sacó las cervezas y nos dijo que la mesa estaba reservada para comer y que nos teníamos que levantar. Le preguntamos si podíamos sentarnos en la barra o en otro lado y nos dijo que estaba todo reservado. Pagamos las cervezas, nos las bebimos de pie en la terraza y nos fuimos no dando crédito al trato recibido y estando aún la mayor parte de las mesas vacías, incluida de la que nos había levantado. Me dio vergüenza que nos levantase delante de los otros clientes que estaban en la terraza y vergüenza ajena por el trato recibido. No somos clientes conflictivos, ni creamos follón ni mucho menos, ni tenemos falta de higiene. Entiendo que esté reservado pero entonces no nos sirvas en la mesa o directamente no nos sirvas las bebidas y nos eches. Nosotros renunciaremos a tomar algo en tu garito y tú a nuestro dinero. He trabajado en la hostelería bastantes años y nunca he visto nada igual. De la comida no puedo hablar, me han dicho que se come muy bien, pero bueno, dado lo que hemos vivido hemos preferido ir a comer muy bien...

Cabanyal is a fascinating little neighborhood in Valencia near the beach. It has a great market hall and across from the market is this gem. I’m not big on seafood but the tellinas here are out of this world. A touch of olive oil and garlic and a spritz of lemon and you just can’t stop ! I could probably eat two or three plates. They are just so sweet and delicious. Valencia may be famous for paella but they’re seafood is amazing. The octopus was also the best I’ve ever eaten. And don’t miss their tortilitas de camarones (...
