Restaurante María Mandiles Plaza del Carmen — Restaurant in Valencia

Didn’t get food but can’t say n/a, so 1 star will do. Would have spent €30-40.

My partner and I went to this cafe on a Sunday afternoon. There were 2 people working front of house.

We stood near the doorway for about 5 minutes waiting to be acknowledged that we were waiting for a table, despite the the young server walking past several times to take and enter orders into the system, and deliver drinks to tables.

Eventually we took it upon ourselves to take an empty table of the 3 available. It did have a reserved sign on it but the server came over and grudgingly gave it to us. (In the 30-40 minutes we were at the cafe, no-one came for this ‘reserved’ table).

After about 20 min of sitting at the table while this server walked by multiple times, bringing orders and taking other orders while ignoring us, I elected to go inside and try to place an order directly. The younger server who was entering another order said it was not possible to place my order. The other front of house (?manager) agreed to take the order.

So we went and sat again for about 20 minutes, at which point the younger server asked to take our order!?! On asking, she said that no, the previous order was not taken. So bad! We got up and left.

If you’re too busy/short staffed, please remove the tables! Or tell people it’s drinks only! At least acknowledge people waiting that they’ve been seen and you’ll get to them.

Simply appalling. The worst service I’ve experienced in years. Even bad/angry wait staff...

I tried going here one day and we asked for a table for two and the waiter said no because he was too busy. There were only two other people in the restaurant. We came back today just to grab a couple drinks. The same guy sat us reluctantly. We ordered one drink and 30 minutes later I asked him if I could get another. He threw up his hands and yelled “Oh my god” and ran off and did not get the second drink. We paid and left immediately. Terrible terrible service here. I’ve never encountered such rude staff who clearly do not want to do their job. Not sure if the other workers are like this but I would recommend the establishment fire this worker immediately. Would never recommend this place or bother visiting again. Worker had black, long, and curly hair and tan skin. Avoid at all costs if you don’t want to be treated terribly lol. From the United States and I couldn’t imagine service like this...

We were attracted to the lovely environment of the outdoor seating at Maria Mandiles and it was open and serving food at 3pm when hunger struck so we ordered a few tapas dishes. The patatas bravas were fine but not as good as those we'd had at Caragola. Nachos were very tasty and had a great cheese sauce drizzled over them. Deep fried camembert with cranberry sauce did what it said on the tin. Calamari rings had a very thick batter and seemed like they came from frozen with a generic sweet chilli sauce but filled a hole. All in all, portions were generous but it still felt ultimately very overpriced for what it was. I wouldn't choose to go back but if you're in a pinch it's not a bad place for a...
