The Curry House Indian Restaurant is on the upper level of a collection of eateries in Punta Limones overlooking the Playa Blanca ferry port and the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura over the water.
We chose to eat outside at one of the tables with an exotic cotton tablecloth because it was a beautiful day. These tables are arranged in a line on the balcony.
The menu and pricing were very similar to that of British curry houses. There were the familiar starters of onion bhajis, samosas, king prawns and chicken chaat. My husband isn’t a fan of Indian food and chose chicken soup to begin with. The soup tasted good although we did not recognise the spices flavouring it. I ate meat samosas which were quite different from the ones that I would eat in the U.K. The meat filling was drier and the pastry enclosing it was completely different from the filo deep fried type I would have expected. On reflection, I think the king prawns might have been a better choice because fresh sea food is available just metres away. I will have to try those next time.
Butter chicken was a safe choice for my husband who doesn’t like spicy food. I ordered a lamb biryani and we shared both dishes. The butter chicken was especially delicious and was accompanied by jewelled basmati rice.
Sadly, that was as much food as we wanted to eat that evening. We didn’t even have naan bread or poppadums because although we might have liked them, we couldn’t have managed them.
The meals of families eating there tended to feature lots of chips in addition to the rice. Hubby was a little envious. Most guests had beer or wine to accompany their meals. We drove there so just sparkling water for us.
The menu offers a very good choice of favourite Indian recipes and I think we will enjoy a return visit to try something...
Read moreFirstly, the food is pre-prepared so when I asked for a mushroom dhansak for my elderly mother, they refused, and offered me an alternative from their menu, something that Spice Fusion did offer.
I watched the video by Dave Travelon where the service was exemplary. Obviously the staff were performing for the camera because we actually tried to summon the staff three times over a ten minute period and they kept acknowledging us but could not be bothered to find out our needs.
It was at this point that I went to the till and paid for the food we’d already consumed.
In comparison, Spice Fusion not only cooked a mushroom dhansak for my mother which is not on their menu, but they were very attentive during our stay.
Remember that it’s not just the quality of the food but also the quality of the service. No one wants to be kept waiting longer than necessary and ten minutes cannot be considered a reasonable wait for a restaurant that was only half full.
I am a curry lover and this is the first place where I was not be able to request a specific dish, and where the service was sloppy.
I’ve been to Spice Fusion, which is situated in the Papagayo centre, several times now but will not revisit the Curry...
Read moreCame here a year ago after a recommendation and we had a good experience. Returned a year later and very disappointed. Let's start with the positive it was friendly and good service. Poppadoms chilli pickle one of the nicest ever had. Starter prawn puri tasted like cooked in sweet chilli jam rather than spice chilli. I did not like. My main came lamb chilli cooked in same sauce as starter which I could not eat First time ever refused a take home box. I was not going to complain but the waiter did ask why I did not eat, so I told him but he said it is chilli.lamb but to me that does not mean it should be like a chilli jam I do recognise that different Indian restaurants will have different styles but this was not authentic at all. My husband's byriani rice just tasted of curry powder. The waiter did not quibble and did take off the bill even though I had not asked him to do so, so that was appreciated! I hope this was...
