If you are spending any time in Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) and you need to buy any consumables including booze then this is one of the cheapest shops to go to. I've knocked off a star because when you first walk in there is a sreange smell of a fishy meaty kind.First you get to the bread and then fruit and veg department. Be aware that fruit in hotter climates tends to go over quickly so buy the least ripened fruit you can unless you are eating it the same day. When you get past that you find out why the meaty smell is there. They have a great meat counter where they cut chops, steaks and mince beef for you to order whilst you watch, so you can tell the butcher (google translate is great if you can't speak spanish) what and how you want your cuts. The quality of the produce is something that Tesco's could learn from. The prices are fantastic. Lots of shelves with recognisable produce follows and then the fish counter (the fishy part of the pong I mentioned earlier). The fish is fresh, some of it unrecognisable to the untrained british eye and all of it worth truing. Like the meat counter they will gut and prepare the fish for you and they also have a great choice of prawns the size of langostines, squid and a thing called pulpo which is lovely in a paella or battererd and pan fried. Once again don't think you will be paying Tesco or Sainsburys prices. You don't but the quality tops all of then. Freezer stuff, dairy stuff follow, then the grownups area with every type of booze at fantastic prices then fizzy stuff and the tills. You will probably be shocked at how low the prices are. Great shop, great produce, great prices and good service from the...
Read moreOnce upon a holiday there was a gorgeous supermarket chain known as dino. Every body knows that name even hermits. Dinosaurs supermercado came to surpass all dino expectations, against all the odds. This supermarket deserves an Oscar for best supermarket in Europe! Why? Well well well let’s see shall we? First, you never feel cold when entering as hyperdino is heated. Secondly, all the grapes are fully ripe so they never taste odd. Thirdly, you will always find fresh, warm tomatoes. Yum. Fourthly, the meat section is to meat what Michelangelo’s David is to paintings. Just fifthly, they always have a terrific record of keeping the peace. Sixly, there are twenty thousand types of crisp. I think. Seventhly, and not least, we always get lost, in accordance with their guidelines. Eighty, the tills are big and tall. Bigger than the biggest thing Zeus could fabricate. Ninethly, nothing compares apples to oranges however, we disagree and think that apples and oranges are one, and avocados as well for me can be compared to apples and oranges. Tenthly, but not finally, the whole experience reminds me of a food heaven shop. There is no other place to experience history and philosophy and geography and science under any circumstance. Thank you dino, I return tomorrow clutching...
Read moreOnce you get through the fishy smell when you enter the store (due to an excellent fish counter within) it is comprehensive in the stock it carries, a bit like a large Waitrose, you'll find everything less costly and being Lanzarote the fresh fruit and vegetables are far superior in taste {Tesco, taste and weep in shame for the trash you carry in comparison} everything including fish, vegetables, meat, frozen stuff are so much cheaper than the UK taste better but have a lot shorter shelf life due to the beautiful climate. Don't expect to get fruit etc out of their growing season because a refreshing experience we eat what's IN Season here which gives a feeling of expectation and pleasure when produce arrives seasonally and full of flavour. Visit, buy and then enjoy what you have purchased instead of just accepting poor...
