I have been a regular to another neighboring cafe in Stafford Avenue for years ( They say the largest cafe chain in Sri Lanka 😜 )
It was a great place to be around but not anymore. not a good experience you can have by visiting so called Sri Lanka’s largest cafe chain outlet in Stafford Avenue because of the attitude of the management as they don't want to improve even if you give them the honest suggestion as how they can improve the overall customer experience. Slow internet which goes down frequently, Nothing to eat in their food menu & no air condition, dirty washrooms.
Then we started to look for an alternative place ☺️☺️ and found this lovely cafe.
The Cauldron Great place to work and/or chill from morning to night. Great atmosphere super friendly staff and decent seating arrangements , great menu & super quality food , quick service ( Average time of serving is 15 minutes food ) best thing is you can scan the menu to place your order from the table.
The staff was great and provided recommendations. Best thing is always they are with a smile .
The place was lively but not packed. The atmosphere was great and quiet for work or studying. The seating area is separated into two indoor areas. The food was great, reasonable prices, the place was clean and the washrooms were clean and tidy.
Finally this place is highly recommended for everyone & so called Sri Lanka’s largest cafe chain has lot to learn...
Read moreOriginally I planned to eat a late lunch at a restaurant called Culture Colombo. Unfortunately when I arrived around 15:30, they were closed. It’s way too hot to go traipsing around the neighbourhood. So I quickly sourced a recommendation. A mere ten minutes later courtesy of a tuk tuk, I arrived here.
Almost hidden away under a tree on a busy road is the chic cafe. Its natural light shines through the main lounge area and there’s leather sofas and modern contemporary furniture. The interior design is infused with rock stars and revolutionaries like Che Guevara. Some of the oil on canvas are pretty bad, especially John Lennon. Jimi Hendrix fares much better!
Customers scroll on their phone, a table of three middle aged men ask a server to take a photo of them and their coffees. Couples canoodle and four twenty somethings occupy the front of the cafe’s large seating area. I take a seat in a quiet part. I soon realise you need to order at the counter, the staff don’t wait on you.
So I order a passionfruit drink, chicken quesadillas and return to my seat. Unfortunately beef is not served here. The staff are kind, courteous and very professional. A young woman is frantically preparing coffee after coffee. She seems dedicated and focused in her job. No time for idle chit chat or even an occasional smile. Prices are reasonable and the food is ok. The drink...
Read moreOur experience at the Couldron was delightful, filled with a variety of delicious dishes. We tried 6 dishes, and they were all tasty. The Three Cheese Pol Roti Koththu and Pol Roti Chicken Kottu with Pan Fried Chicken & Cauldron Gravy stood out as the best, perfectly blending the flavors.
The Cauldron Gravy served with the Pol Roti Chicken Kottu was impressive, adding to the enjoyment of the dish. However, the Cheesy Chicken Bubble Waffles didn't meet our expectations. While the fried chicken was tasty, the waffle itself was a bit bland, especially without the cheese sauce. On the other hand, both the Cheesy Chicken Bubble Waffles and Chicken Ham & Cheese Pasta were not spicy, making them suitable for kids. The other dishes had a great balance of spiciness, enhancing the overall experience. The Hodge Podge with Meatless Meat, Cheese and Chilli Jam was surprisingly good, with meat-like soy chunks and a side of delicious fried potato pieces.
The atmosphere at the Couldron was calm and cool, decorated with posters of famous movies, TV series, bands, and cartoons. The QR-coded menus and ordering process for each table added a cool modern touch.
The service was good, although it took some time to deliver our order probably to the variety of dishes we ordered. The washroom was clean and well-maintained, serving...
