Your Driver Sri Lanka — Attraction in Colombo

We could not have fallen into better hands. We are one of those couples who had some plans for their vacation but with the covid and restrictions had to change them completely. And that's how we ended up in Sri Lanka, a jewel of a country better to enjoy before it becomes fashionable. We contacted Chami thanks to the good comments he had on the review pages. In less than a day he was already making us the itinerary based on what we wanted to see and the days we were going to stay. The communication was super fluid and he did all the organization for us, so we didn't have to rack our brains with logistics. And what to say about the price... If it hadn't been for them we wouldn't have been able to visit half of the things, from the highest mountains and the wildest nature, all the animals, the most deserted beaches or the areas with the most party. They also hired the safaris with the best drivers, the best train seats...

A fundamental part of the trip is the driver, that unknown person with whom you are going to spend many hours during your stay. And we hit the jackpot with Mahesh. Mahesh is passionate about his country, who cares that you also feel that love for his land. He was not only a driver that takes you from point A to B, he was also our private guide, our photographer, our personal trainer (eager to climb mountains with us at 5am to see the sunrise) and our daily energy boost. Always, always, always with a smile, an anecdote and a recommendation. The most punctual person in the world, who has taken care of us (no matter what you need, he will move heaven and earth to get it) and with whom we have shared a thousand stories. He has always been there and has always left us our space, he has a special gift. He also made a few surprises: fruit in the middle of the trip, alternative paths to see animals... The finishing touch has been the total cultural immersion we have had with both of them. The last night we returned in the early hours of the morning and Chami invited us to dinner at her house, because that's how the Sri Lankans are: they open the doors of their home and their families, they welcome you, and they set up an improvised farewell party where the Arrack was not missing.

After being recommended Your Driver Sri Lanka and also reading the amazing reviews I was super excited to use them. I sent Chami my rough itinerary and he recommend a few changes which were great as well. His communication before I arrived at Sri Lanka and while I was in Sri Lanka was great, Always checking in on us after each day to ensure we were okay. Our driver was Viraj and he was good. Great communicator and always arrived on time.

But, there is a big but. I was told via email that the driver needs some where to sleep. Which was fine everyone needs a bed to sleep in. I was told if my accommodation that I am staying at doesn't have drivers accommodation that we needed to pay $10 a night. I am a very good person, so I contacted all our accommodation and arranged a room for our driver which ranged from $4-$10 a night to make it easier for him when we arrived.

We got to our first guest house and the driver said he didn't want to stay there as it was soo dirty and unclean, (By the way it was very clean) but regardless I forgot to confirm the room and it wasn't available. So the driver took our $10 to stay somewhere else. What got me upset was Chami or Viraf then rang up and abused the other guesthouses I had pre-booked.. I know this for fact as I have written confirmation from the guesthouse. that they called them up and told them off for telling foreigners they have cheap driver rooms. The guest houses then told me, that this is a common scam by drivers, is they take the money of the tourists and stay somewhere cheaper and pocket the rest. Which is not an uncommon thing as I have used drivers everywhere around the world. I am not upset about the money or about the accommodation scam.

What I am upset about is that the people I thought I trusted to drive us around Sri Lanka called up and abused the guest houses I so kindly arranged accommodation for. Really changed our experience with YDSL and left an unsavoury taste in our mouths, I really couldn't work out why they would do this. So I am giving...

We had a brilliant experience with Your Driver Sri Lanka, which we used for a recent 12-day trip around Sri Lanka. As we were planning to travel or visit sites on most days, we found it convenient and cost-effective to book a driver for the whole trip instead of having to arrange transport each day.

Your Driver Sri Lanka came highly recommended to us by my brother who had arranged a trip with Chami previously. From the start, communication with Chami was easy and he made arrangements around our itinerary quickly and effectively.

Our driver, Danu, was fantastic. Not only is he extremely professional - he drives safely (always calm, and great at smoothly navigating challenging roads and traffic conditions) - he is also a very knowledgeable guide and a great, kind person who it was pleasure to spend time with. His passion for Sri Lanka's wildlife, nature, food and history was infectious and made such a positive difference to our experience in Sri Lanka. Danu helped us with valuable advice many times, such as tips about the best times to visit certain places. We felt so well looked after for the whole trip, and could tell that he genuinely cares about ensuring his passengers are comfortable and having a good experience.
