The story goes something like this… I was going to be in Linkoping on business for around two months. Naturally the first thing I did to get ready was to scope out the restaurants. Cuz that’s what we foodies do right? Anyway, Alfama was the first place I went to when I got there. Portuguese food was not something I had had before so I was pretty excited. Fast forward two months and 6 or 7 (I lost count) meals later. I went home to Denver incredibly sad to say goodbye.
First there’s the owner, Gabriel. I cannot emphasize enough how special this guy is. Total professional, extremely knowledgeable and so warm and welcoming. Secondly (and MOST importantly of course) was the food. I worked my way through almost everything on the menu and all of it was fantastic!
A few highlights: The shrimp appetizer is out of this world! Perfectly executed simple dish that is amazing every time. Super fresh shrimp, tender and sweet on the inside with just a light crisping on the outside. The cod... Another masterfully prepared dish. The beef and shrimp skewer. There’s a little piece of bread that sits below the hanging skewer and collects all the deliciousness that drips on it from the meat. UNREAL!!! I could go on and on about other dishes I had but hopefully you get the point.
Oh wait I almost forgot -- the wine!!! Too many great ones to list. The port! And the Portuguese beer! Something for everyone.
Simply put, incredibly authentic, rustic Portuguese dishes that you will be dreaming about later. Dishes I could see a Portuguese grandmother making that would leave her grandchildren with a lifetime of memories. And that is the highest compliment any restaurant can get in my opinion. ...

Service was very averaged - Asked for iced water and didn't get it: Waiter took away the used utensils in the half way of dinner, but no new utensils came. Philosophy behind cooking was questioning. (1) GAMBAS A PORTUGUESA: The flavor of parsil and garlic stayed in the parsil and garlic, super subtle in sauce.... (2) CATAPLANA: Soup was quite salty and the shrimp and fish were not from fresh materials. The shrimp was cooked in dill/saline already and re-cooked in cataplana. The green peppers turned yellow already when served. Considering the price of this dish 640 Kr, the dish can be done in a better way. The lemon sorbet was the best dish among all...

From the ambience which struck the perfect balance between coziness and professionalism, to the highly knowledgeable staff, NOTHING I experienced was lacklustre.
As a Portuguese person, I can confidently say that the service and quality of this gastronomical gem exceeds that of most restaurants in Portugal itself. Whether you are located in Linköping or in another city, you owe yourself the...
