I am writing this because the experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and others should know what they might run into before deciding to go. If the attitude at the door says anything about the vibe inside, I’m glad we didn’t bother.
We were outside Grand in Malmö on a Saturday night and saw a group of around 20 people with a birthday booking get completely shut out by the guards. A couple of them might have been a bit tipsy, but no more than the rest of the line—including us. Still, the entire group was denied entry, even when the ones who had been drinking offered to leave so the rest could go in. The sober guests weren’t even allowed to ask why. No explanation, no discussion, just a flat-out refusal. I heard them say they booked with "Jonas" but i guess that does not matter.
When the bar chief came down, we hoped he would be level-headed, but he was just as arrogant as the guards and simply "trusted" their judgment without even listening.
The whole thing felt unnecessary and badly handled. The birthday girl looked really upset, and instead of trying to find a reasonable solution, the staff just dug their heels in. If this is how guests are treated at the door, we can only imagine the attitude inside. We didn’t bother going in and went to Taproom instead, where the vibe was much friendlier.
Just a heads-up for anyone thinking of going—this is the kind of treatment you might run into before you even get inside, and for people planning to have a bigger event. The smallest thing might ruin...
Read moreI went to Grand last Saturday to celebrate my birthday. We were incredibly disappointed by our experience there. The service staff were extremely apathetic and didn't seem to care about providing any sort of pleasant dining experience. We waited an increadibly long time for our ramen to arrive (approx. 2 hours), and having lived in Japan for a bit I think it's reasonable to say that it was the worst ramen I've ever had, both overcooked noodles and an extremely bland broth. I understand that ramen outside of Japan will never meet the same standards but it's safe to say that this was a new low. The kitchen seemed to work incredibly slowly and inefficiently and all of the tables around us were also visibly peeved by the lack of professionalism this restaurant presented. At the end of the meal the waiter dropped the card machine at our table without even making eye contact or saying anything to us. Perhaps one of the weirdest aspects of this experience was a security guard that was constantly pacing around the restaurant and looking around each table. I understand the need for security but this seemed a bit too much and made us feel slightly uncomfortable. Overall, the experience was terrible, so much so that it verged on comical. Dine here at...
Read moreWe went for a Friday dinner here and it was cosy and nice.
Positives :
First, the food was really tasty, and came quickly. All dishes we ordered were good but the vegetarian bao stood out the most for me.
Second, the cocktails were delicious. Would definitely return for a drink.
Third, our server was friendly and helpful.
Fourth, it felt nicer entering through the courtyard. It was a bit hidden from the outside and was not so crowded there.
Areas of improvement/ Negatives:
First, when we entered there was nobody there to help us, we had to go into the restaurant and towards the bar where all the staff were together and chatting and we had to try and get their attention for a table. This was a bit awkward for us and I think that could be improved.
Second, there was no place to hang our coats and keep our things. The table area was a bit crowded so we had to keep our jackets etc on the floor. It would be nice if there were some coat hangers easily accessible or that we could be shown where they are when we came in.
Third, bathroom signage was not clear. It's hard to find the bathroom.
Fourth, the place was quite big and quite cold too. Had to keep our sweaters on as the heating...
