Dropped in a couple of weeks ago for dinner but the restaurant was full so this time we made a reservation in advance.
Mooncake is located in a backstreet in Kungsholmen but is easy to find. The restaurant is medium sized and accommodates well - small families, couples and groups up to 5 or 6. The feeling is upmarket and modern.
Our Meal:
🔸️ Peking Soup 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 A chunky peppery / spicy soup with chopped duck, chicken, shitake. The soup base is full of umami and every spoonful of this slightly starchy brew is rewarding. Reminds me of soups in top Chinese restaurants. Nice that the serving size is medium and even enough for sharing.
🔸️ Dim Sum 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 The flavours of the dumplings are better when slightly cooled. Here's where you can taste the broth in steamed meat that also has chopped prawns. Each dumpling wrapper is translucent and has just the right amount of chewiness. Exquisite and skillfully home-made dim sum.
🔸️Rice paper wrapped juliien duck with iceberg sallad. 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Best eaten with the accompanying hoisin sauce dip. A fresh savoury starter that meat lovers would like.
🔸️ Wasabi Tempura Prawns 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Generous, wonderful tasting prawns. Crispy and firm to the bite. Good tempura batter. The bed tempura veggies are equally delicious. A little on the oily side.
🔸️Banana tart topped with slices of banana, peanuts bits and coconut ice-cream. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 Super good. Not too sweet. This is like an Asian Eaton mess. Love the soft bananas and creaminess of the coconut ice-cream. I like the combination and textures in taste of this dessert.
🔸️ Fried Banana with vanilla ice-cream 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Banana wrapped in fried filopastry with ice-cream. Nice, but I liked the other dessert more.
🔸️ Brewed coffee 🤩🤩🤩🤩 A small cup of good medium brew. Good palate cleanser .
The only thing we didn't enjoy was the complimentary appetiser of sweet chilli infused vermicelli which was too spicy and plain. Otherwise it was a great evening with...
Read moreThe best value of money Asian fusion place in Stockholm, set in a stylish environment. The dishes seemed plain but the tastes were fabulous, and you could tell the chef put a lot of mind into creating the menu. The deep fried prawns were super tender, and the coating was very thin. The monkfish was firm in texture, and the vegetables were crunchy with wok hei. The deep fried lamb shank was the best I had in Stockholm, the meat juice was perfectly preserved and the lamb odor was totally removed. Again, the stir fried vegetables paired with the lamb came with wok hei. All the dishes were generous in portions. The highlight of the dinner was the dessert, a cooked pear infused with cinnamon, and served with sugar marinated ginger stripes and coconut meat ice cream. The combination of these simple flavors created a delicious harmony and I would highly recommend. The owner of the place was really friendly and welcoming, and he has a good collection of whiskey here. The whole atmosphere was classy and neat, with...
Read moreIncredibly friendly and attentive service, good drinks, and a great menu with a lot of variety but without the worry of too many items. My partner had the Peking duck as it was the first time she ever had it, which was very nice (though I wish they would maybe offer a whole roasted duck for two as that's the way I love that dish. I had the tempura lamb chops which were tender and tasty. I probably would have asked for it to be a bit spicier if I was to order it again as I'm a bit more partial to heat than what normally passes for spicy in this country. The mango salad starter was delicious and is definitely one I'm going to look into learning to make. All in all it was probably one of the most enjoyable meals that I've had in Stockholm since I moved here over four years ago - highly...
