We travelled as a family and booked a whole dorm to ourselves. I would not stay here again.||It was all very clean and the reception area had some nice booths to relax in. It's an easy walk from the train station and has a great tiny family run Japanese restaurant opposite.||However the rooms were awful - it wasn't that hot outside and the room was boiling - so much so we had to prop the door of the room open onto the corridor whenever we could to try and cool down - there is no aircon and no fan.||The bunk beds in the dorm are terrible: you cannot sit up in the bottom bunk it's far too low and there is nowhere else comfortable to sit in the dorm, you cannot lie down flat on the bunk bed if you are taller than about 180cm (5ft 10) as they are too short and the ladder to the top bunk is positioned so as to be so useless you have to sort of jump down from the top bunk and hope for the best.||The bathrooms are also terrible. They are red plastic pods plonked in the room. It's like stepping into a red Smeg fridge. You wobble about when you are in there it's so plasticy and the space is tiny - the shower sink and toilet are all in one and if you have a shower there is no way to prevent the rest of the floor getting soaked. Also the light in the pod automatically turns on making it hard not to wake everyone else up if you need to use the toilet after the lights are out (and even when you shut the door the light blares out as there is a gap under the door). ||There is no kitchen facility and no where to even boil a kettle that I could find - these provisions being part of the price of a bed are a key part of hostel life but this big-business approach to hostels means they want you buying their coffee and drinks and food not making your own.||The staff are super friendly but the way the reception is set up means that they have no line of sight as to who is and who is not coming in and out of the hostel which made me feel uncomfortable (although it is in a clean and safe-feeling neighbourhood).||Finally the branding of the place was really not to my taste - they heavily market "drink and ink" (ie buy a beer and get a tattoo) all over the place - this is a hostel not a club - and definitely not what I want from a...
Read moreThe Generator Stockholm is fine if you're looking for the cheapest possible option and aren't too fussy about cleanliness. However, I wouldn't have wanted to stay there for more than two nights. On my next visit to Stockholm I'll be booking a different hostel.
The room itself (6-bed female dorm) was a very good size. In some hostels, you barely have room to move, but that's not the case here. With a bench, a large desk, two mirrors, enough wardrobe hooks, and a large trash can, the room is equipped well.
The bathroom on the other hand is awful. It's a cubicle built right in the middle of the room, reminiscent of a train toilet. The shower is only separated by a nasty old curtain that barely contains the spray of the water so the whole room is constantly wet. There is also no shelf to put your toiletries so you have to awkwardly balance them on the faucet. A hair dryer is only available upon request at the reception. The soap dispenser was empty and there are no paper towels offered. The ceiling vent was full of thick dust bunnies and the drain cover was broken. The tiles are all yellowed and give the impression that the bathroom is about due for a renovation. The trash can wasn't emptied during the two days, so the bathroom probably wasn't cleaned either.
The luggage compartments under the beds are pretty impractical. My bed was in a corner right next to the bathroom, so there was barely enough room to access my compartment. Regular lockers would be much better. It's also annoying that you need a padlock. In modern hostels you should be able to lock them with your keycard.
On top of that, one of the previous guests must have spilled soda or something on the compartment. Luckily, I noticed the large sticky stain before I put my things down... I cleaned it off myself but it's worrying that cleaning staff didn't notice because it would've surely attracted bugs eventually. There was also an old water bottle in the crack between my bed and the wall, so the rooms are obviously only cleaned very superficially.
The common area is okay, but compared to some other hostels I've been to it doesn't offer anything special. The atmosphere in my room was rather reserved, but in the lounge people hung out, drank and played...
Read moreOverall had a fine stay here. I booked two beds about two months out, as I knew it would be busy around the time my mom and I were going. Our train getting into Stockholm was delayed, so we didn’t get to the hostel until about 1am. They told us that we would be in separate rooms and that we but had top bunks. My mom struggles to get into top bunks, but they were full in the female only dorm and couldn’t get her a bottom bed. They said we could come back to reception the next morning to see about getting her a bottom bunk the second night. We were able to switch her, but had to pay 10 Krone for the bed/linen cleaning. The bathroom was okay, but there was black hair all over the ground, so felt gross walking with no shoes on in there. Shower had good pressure, but there’s no where to really put your shower essentials. Beds to comfortable for the most part and each bed has a plug. Pretty warm and muggy in the room during the summer, but I was able to have the window open for a little bit before the girl below me came into the room and shut it.
We used the washer and dryer available, but only one dryer was working and two washers. There was such a back up if people trying to use the dryer, that I ended up sitting in the laundry room for about two hours, to make sure I got my stuff in before a other person jumped in front of us (someone who hadn’t used the washer three their clothes in the dryer right before the other girl washing had her washer turn off for her to switch, so that made her wait and hour and a half to get her clothes in, then I had to wait for her to be done. Two more people had started a load in the washers, so it was just very backed up. Washers take about an hour and the dryers take about an hour and a half. If you plan on doing laundry, I recommend middle of the day, as once it got later, more people were coming in.
The prepaid Breakfast was pretty good, nothing special though. I loved the coffee and...
