Bäckerei Jetzer Basel — Restaurant in Basel

A friend and I went there on October 31st, and both of us asked for a vegan latte and a croissant; it was given disposable cups for the coffee and a paper bag for the food. We didn't ask for that but didn't complain either; we are both very chill people. We sat outside because it was sunny and we wanted to enjoy the weather on that day. A few minutes later, an employee came to us and asked us to leave because we had the takeaway setting for the order. We explained that we didn't ask for that, and she said we would have to "go out immediately." I told her that there seemed to be a racist requirement (we are both people of color - and literally the only non-white people there at that particular moment), and she said that if I think so, then she is that, and started to speak in German to us. Worst experience in the city. Talking to other international people about that, they also mentioned that the place is not very friendly towards people from other countries, and now reading other reviews here, even found complaints about it 3 years ago... This omelette was so poorly made, I can't believe the cook was okay with serving it - just look at the photo 🤦🏻‍♀️. Yolks and whites were not mixed, the insides spilled all over the place like a broken hollandaise, and the outside was rubbery. Inside was one slice of ham and one tiny chunk of cheese. Also, it was missing the salad greens it was supposed to come with.

Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a rush after the omelette took 25 minutes to make despite there only being 1 other customer when I arrived, so I couldn't bring up these issues.

The espresso comes from a machine, so the steamed milk lacked any silkiness, and the shot was poorly pulled.

A customer who arrived after me was offered an English menu, while none was offered to me. That's fine, but just sours the experience a bit more.

A very nice Bakery with decent prices. We just moved to Basel two days ago and this Bakery is right at the corner of our street. Even though we are learning German, it is still difficult to order food locally. However, at this Bakery, the staff (both young and old) are kind and accommodating and try their best to serve us in English. I hope we can learn German soon and be able to order in the local dialect. However, so far, the Bakery staff have been really kind. The pastries are also amazing and...
