Gelateria di Berna — Restaurant in Bern

So, personally I don’t like to give bad reviews but I have to make some points for this ice cream, I am Italian and in our country gelato is a very important culture and when I saw the very good reviews on this place I was super excited to try in Bern a new type of ice cream with some strange flavours and ingredients. Unfortunately the problem was in the quality of the ingredients, especially the consistency of the ice cream, very dense, consistent almost rubbery which made me think there were strong thickeners inside, which is not a positive thing even if the thickeners are natural, ice cream has to be creamy and easy to eat without chewing it for his consistency. All his ingredients have to be natural and you don’t have to add other things to not make it melt so it last longer. The taste was overall good but nothing in comparison with the real gelato maybe a 6 out of 10, only because the girls inside that serves you are very kind. Die Glacen sind wirklich gut, das kann nun wirklich nicht abgestritten werden. Es gibt allerdings ein paar Punkte, die seit Jahren unverändert und sehr mühsam sind: Die Grösse der Portionen kann extrem variieren! Wir hatten schon das Erlebnis, eine grosse Portion bestellt zu haben, die genauso "gross" wie ein kleine war. Das darf einfach nicht passieren! Auch scheint das Personal allgemein nicht immer richtig geschult zu sein, bei gewissen Verkäufern dauert das Servieren eine halbe Ewigkeit, als würden sie das erste Mal arbeiten. Für mich in der heutigen Welt unverständlich, dass man nur Barzahlung akzeptiert, scheint aber ein allgemeiner Komplex aller Eisdielen in Bern zu sein. Würde die Wartezeiten massiv verkürzen! Sogar im Busverkehr von Postauto und RBS gibt es mittlerweile Terminals... Die Gutscheine: Wenn ein CHF 5.00 Gutschein gekauft wird, ist der Betrag auf dem Gutschein NICHT ersichtlich. Ob die beschenkte Person den Gutschein für eine kleine oder grosse Portion einlöst, spielt keine Rolle. Bei einer kleinen Portion macht die Betreiberin ein Gewinn. Die Differenz von CHF 1.50 behält die Gelateria für sich. So hat mir das eine Mitarbeiterin der Filiale im Fischermätteli erklärt. Für mich inakzeptabel!

Fazit: Gute Glacen, allerdings völlig überbewertet. Diverse Abläufe und Konzepte...

They're always at least good and often really great. Occasionally one of the flavors is less brilliant (spargel was an adventurous choice, but it's hard to believe anyone ordered that twice). Mare di Berna, marzipan mohn, youretta (pair w/ cassis!), and zuppa inglese are all spectacular and they do insulated take out boxes - a definite winner for parties...
