This restaurant had a 4.9 average rating so we had expectations of a fine meal. Sadly it was not so.
The restaurant characterizes itself as a Lebanese restaurant which was to be a welcome break from the cheese and beef heavy typical Swiss cuisine.
We ordered the Baba Ghanouge (restaurant's namesake and presumably signature dish?), Moussaka, Roasted Cauliflower, Kefta in Pita, and Soujouk.
We were told the Soujouk is not available as no clean sausage casing could be found to make it. (Hard to believe in a country that serves so much good charcuterie, but so be it.)
The Baba Ghanouge was listed as being made with eggplant, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil and finished with seasonal vegetable. This dish was a huge disappointment - totally lacked flavor. To me it just tasted like tart eggplant - I think they forgot to add tahini as there was not creaminess. Salt helped a bit, but still not recommended. Every other baba that I've eaten, had garlic in it too.
The moussaka was equally bland and topped with what they claimed to be pomegranate molasses. The 'molasses' was suuuuuper tart and tasted to me like cheap balsamic vinegar diluted with lemon juice. When I chatted with the server about what the dark sauce was, he claimed it was homemade pomegranate molasses, and it was tart because that's just how the pomegranate was. Here I recommend they buy the molasses, or at least buy the pomegranate juice as this dish was just a bland mix of veggies.
The cauliflower was OK, but again it had the 'molasses' which made me pucker from the tartness with every bite. Not balanced at all.
The kafta in pita was also a disappointment as the mean was dry, not really spice, (or salted!), and again the dish was topped with the 'molasses'.
On the flip side the service was very courteous, as if the server was raised by his grandmother. Very, very polite. He did leave a thumbprint not the plate when bringing it (eeewwww) and had this quirky thing of rotating the water bottle so that we could see the label as if it was a bottle of wine!?!
In summary, it's a marginal veggie/vegan meal, but you might want to bring some seasonings in your pocket. ...
Read moreWe were in town for one night, and Kareem, the owner made it special, and seated us right away. The food was the best Mediterranean food I've ever had, and I've been all over. We had a chicken shwarma plate, and a lamb plate. The portions were generous, the food so flavorful. The service was great, and the Lebanese music in the background made it feel like were were there.
