Not quite sure what other reviewers rave about (I may have an idea though). This is a pretty setting indeed but nothing to write home about it. We went two in a mid-week evening. There was no particular atmosphere. Yet it was quite noisy. Greeting and service were polite and swift but unremarkable. Not École Hôtelière by far and certainly nothing Italian (more south of France from accents). We ate with two pretty Spritz immediately served by the bar. We ordered risotto cooked "à l'americano" that was greeted with surprised eyes (that's what you get when waitresses know nothing about this business let alone Italian food) but was done accordingly and tasted as it should. Nearby tables had pizza that were quite pleasant to look at. The kitchen and pizzaiolo do a good job! Again, nothing fabulous, just the minimum to expect from the thematic name. Looks like one of these French chain affairs found a spot in Geneva. Not sure I'm convinced to eat out instead...

The exterior is modern and it has plenty of space outside, which appealed to us (young couple). The restaurant just opened and we were the only guests at that moment. Therefore, we felt free to "occupy" a bigger table (for four), simply because it was the only table standing on the green grass (which we love). A poor choice in hindsight.
Instead of being welcomed, we were unexpectedly instructed by the staff to move to a smaller table (for two). From a business perspective I understand it's their right to do so. However (from a perspective of hospitality) as the only guests, we felt unwanted. Maybe because the request to relocate was not particularly friendly. The young waiter explained that we could have avoided our unfortunate situation if we had asked him first.
I'll never assume again that in an empty restaurant, all tables are...
Read moreDuring a recent stay at The Crown Plaza hotel near Geneva airport, and looking for a reasonably priced evening meal, we were lucky to find Scalo 34 located opposite it. The food was excellent, with lovely fresh ingredients. The toppings on the pizzas were far superior to the usual mass-produced products, and the bases were light, crisp, and not in the least bit doughy. The lasagna and 3 tomato pasta dishes were also delicious. Nice touches included leaving a dish of parmesan cheese on the table to be enjoyed with the food. As we enjoyed our first visit, we returned with friends for a further meal on the last day of our holiday. Our waiter, Acton, was helpful and attentive, adding an extra friend to our table whom we hadn't included in our original booking. He also helped us settle our wine bill using all our remaining...
