If you don't fancy visiting Solothurn for its beauty, then do it because of restaurant Löwen. Well, that is if you like eating meat. Because meat... they have plenty of it. It's actually a challenge just to make your choice out of the vast options there are on the menu. But regardless what you choose, I'm sure you'll be served a tasty meal. So far I can at least recommend the rib-eye. But I'm sure I'll go back to try some other cuts.

This is one of the only two restaurants in the old town open for lunch on Christmas Day. Without much of a choice, I didn't read any review before stepping in. The fish filet with rice and veggies I ordered turned out to be one of the best seafood meals I've had in Europe. Only now when writing this review did I realise that this place is primarily known as a steak house, so that is funny.

Als der Hauptgang nach knapp 2 Stunden noch immer nicht serviert wurde haben wir uns bei den Kellnern beschwert, da unser Nachbartisch (welcher deutlich nach uns kam) das Essen vor uns bekommen hatte. Als Entschuldigung brachte man uns vier ein kleines, geschnittenes Steak zur Überbrückung der nochmaligen Wartezeit von 10 Minuten. Dannach kam das Essen.. der Reis war verkocht, die Polenta kam in frittierten, fettigen Schnitten (war in der Karte so nicht vermerkt) und das Rucola darunter hatte seine besten Tage auch schon hinter sich, das Cordon-Bleu war leider auch nur mittelmass.as Fleisch hingegen war sehr fein und von guter Qualität. Als kleine Wiedergutmachung wurde uns noch eine Runde Getränke aufs Haus serviert. Wir wurden dann noch gefragt ob wir ein Dessert wünschen, was wir alle verneint haben. Trotzdem bekamen wir dann, auch als Entschuldigung, ein Tiramisu und eine Kugel Glace serviert. Wohl nett gemeint, aber wenn der Gast die Dessertkarte ablehnt, dann sollte man auch nicht als Wiedergutmachung ein Dessert servieren. Im übrigen war das Tiramisu eine Schande. Zu wässrig, zu rahmig und zu süss. Besser kein Tiramisu servieren als das.

My Partner and I went there today and we ordered a Burger with fries and Beef Short ribs with Potato gratin.

The Short ribs were tender but also had a lot of Fat. They were marinated in a sweet BBQ sauce, which I quite liked but they could’ve used more salt. The Potato Gratin in my opinion also could use some more salt and pepper.

Now the Burger was sadly not very good. The Meat was dry and in my opinion ruined by the seasoning. A Burger Patty should just be seasoned with salt and Pepper. The cheese that was ontop the Burger patty aswell was sadly solidified and the texture of the Burger was not quite right. It frankly overpowered the Beef. Lastly there was too much sauce in the burger and there was no balance of flavour.
