This is my first ever one star. This is mainly because of the service. I was there on July 31st. We had a reservation for two at 19. When we arrived the restaurant was not even half full. After we were sat we were completely ignored for 35 minutes. No one came to give us menus or ask if we wanted something to drink. I flagged down two waiters to ask for menus. The first ones response was “It will come” and then he walked away (this was after 20’ of waiting) and the next one just said “Yes” and kept walking and never came back. If there were less waiting staff and a full restaurant I would be more understanding, but there were plenty of staff running around in our part of the restaurant and the majority of tables were empty. We were also seated right next to the center table where they keep all the menus and bread. So any of the waiters could have just reached over and given us a couple of menus quickly. But I guess they didn’t think it was their job. After 35 minutes I realized we didn’t have a designated waiter and no one felt responsible for us. So flagged down the hostess and explained our situation. She apologized and said it was her first day on the job. We placed our order with her and thought that everything would be alright from her on. But no. She didn’t make sure we had service after this and she didn’t come back to check on us. We where still without a waiter after this. No one asked if I wanted more wine. No one gave us bread like the other tables got. No one cleared or plates. We were still complete forgotten. If we wanted anything we had to sit patiently and try to make intense eye contact with someone, but often they just rushed by anyway.

I had a fish and I was not very happy. Main issue was that it was extremely bland. The sause, potatoes purée and the fish didn’t really taste like anything. My friend thought had a pasta that was lovely. My wine was fine, but I would have loved to try a few different ones as well. But sadly it was impossible to order since we had no service. I also heard our neighboring tables complain that they weren’t allowed to taste the wine. I’ve never experienced that in Zurich before. Anyway, when we finally flagged someone down to clear our table I had to ask for bread because we where still hungry and we tried to order a dessert. The guy had no idea what I was trying to order and I had to point it out to him on the menu. Someone later came and said it was not available. At this point I decided to end this misery so I requested the bill. A very lovely guy called Javier (I think) came with the bill. I explained to him why we couldn’t leave a tip (this is the first time ever I don’t tip) He was super apologetic (maybe the hostess could lern something from him) and very nice. I’m sad he wasn’t our waiter because I’m sure we would have had a very different experience if he was. He said that a lot of people where new and that is why the situation was a mess. I can understand it to a point. But even if you are new and don’t know the restaurant you should still know service. To look around from time to time and make sure everyone is okay. If a glass is empty ask if they want something more to drink. But the least amount of understanding I have for the hostess (I think that’s what she was) if someone makes a complaint like that you should come back at some point to make sure the problem is fixed.

We paid 110 chf for 1liter of water, one fish main, one vegetarian main, one glas of wine and one grape soda. For what we got that was definitely not worth it.

The restaurant has such a perfect location and lovely interior. It’s really a shame that the service is so poor and disorganized.

P.S. I later realized that the other restaurant “Fishergarten” have many of the same menu items and a much cheaper price. I might try that one...

Really poor customer service, hair in one dish, unbearable heat on the terrace but no option to sit inside.

Despite the unbearable heat they would not use the tables inside but only served lunch outside on the terrace. The maitre gave us a table in the middle with a line of sun bothering two of us. Despite me asking if we could not have a table with full shadow he insisted the sun would be gone in 20 minutes. (Not true). I ordered Fischknusperli. On the menu it shows two sides (fries and salad) without mentioning whether its with both or a choice between the two. The waiter did not ask but assumed I wanted fries. I claimed my salad and he insisted on being right bringing the menu to show me what it says. I could then demonstrate that I was right. The menu does not say one OR the other. Since he knew it was a choice of one side dish he should have asked. He also assumed my husband wanted a main course size of his tartar without asking, while my husband had preferred a starter size. Finally, the goat cheese salad of my friend had a hair in it. When we told the waiter he asked where the hair was (which we had already thrown on the floor). I found this is incredible a guest having to proof that. As well as the gesture of bringing the menu to proof himself right. Such poor customer service. To round it all up, the second bottle of water he brought was not cold but still charged us another 8...

Our first visit was already horrible. The location is fantastic and the food is really good too. However i have never experienced such bad service in my whole life, extremly rude. Despite the first bad experience, we decided to come back, especially because of its great location. However this resulted to be a huge mistake. We asked if they had any free space, we were told to look ourselves in a very rude way. We weren't attended for about 30 minutes, when it was obviously on purpose. When we asked to order, we were told to wait in a rude way again. Asking 3 times for the wine card, is just another experience. To finally not recieving it. My friend asked for ice: so she was responded: ''I couldn't imagine anything better, than bringing you ice!'' Food was served before any drinks arrived, and we didn't get the drinks until we finished eating.

Also my friend, ordered a ice tea, so the waiter thought he was funny saying here is your vodka icetea. When he said, that he did not order this, he was shouted at by the waitress which took up the order.

After 60 minutes we decided to leave and never come back. As i said, lovely location, great drinks and food but worst...

Reception service was fast and swift. Provided us with options although it was disappointing to realise that this is a reservation priority place. Unfortunately full menu is not offered on the bar only snacks. The snacks menu is somehow quite limited and provides a water down experience, it could allow for few more items for a more complete F&B experience. Drinks menu provides a good variety of drinks but again, how could you lure a good customer to order premium drinks if he cannot combine them with a good quality snack. Add cold cuts, cheese platters or light seafood in the snacks. Quality of food was very good. We enjoyed a premium rich taste. Service has been swift, waiters were attentive and careful. Nevertheless, they have not offered to move us to a table later on. Prices are premium and this is what this place is targeting for. They occupy a premium location and capitalise on it as much as they can. I recommend visiting this place although a reservation is a must if you expect to visit the restaurant. If you are on a budget then turn around and look for somewhere else.

Although a great place, there were unfortunately many disappointments during the visit. The black tea with lemon was of very poor quality. Signed in Ukrainian and you didn't really know what you were drinking. In addition, the glasses were very old, unsightly and scratched. For this price in the restaurant Hiltl is served delicious tea in a large elegant glass. Moreover, the free starter - bread with olive paste of very poor quality. The bread was so dry that you could break your teeth. The waitress saw many crumbs on the table after breaking the bread, but she did not come to wipe the table. In addition, there were no serviettes available and the oil stood on the table in the sun instead of being served by the waiter with the meal. Plus for the freshness of the fish.
