I guess Singapore Restaurant earned its place as a kult restaurant. It has been standing there for at least over 20 years, as far as I remembered the first time I came to visit Switzerland I came to this restaurant and that was 20 years ago.
To me personally Singapore Restaurant had become part of tradition. It served IndoMalay cuisines with its signature dish “Nasi Campur” means rice with various toppings and mixed together. A very typical Singaporean/Malaysian dish.
Singapore restaurant also served different kind of meals including noodles dishes and vegetarian options of course in the style Indo/Malay.
Here’s the tricky part. Singapore Restaurant has two parts. If you come into the restaurant and turn left, you’re entering their self-service area, where you order your food on the counter and the server will bring your food to your table. It’s perfect if you want a quick meal and go. And then there’s Raffles Restaurant, it’s where you turn right by the entrance where you can get a full service with someone serving and taking your order. This can be very confusing especially for someone who’s it not familiar with their concept.
The staff are very friendly and the service relatively quick and the food is in a really good portions, so bring your empty stomach.
By the way, Singapore Restaurant is open its kitchen until 2 AM. That’s extremely rare in Zürich who has restaurant open until late at night but bear in mind only the self-service part that open so late, perfect if you’re hungry in the middle of the night. Singapore Restaurant also received its Halal certification, so it’s literally a restaurant...
Read moreI am not sure why the reviews are this high, but seriously don’t recommend. I judge a restaurant by the honesty of it’s staff. Mistakes happens, things go wrong - that’s life! A place gets negative in my books when they just try to extract as much money as they can despite a terrible service.
The staff had forgotten our mains (a good hour after we ordered), so we asked for the bill when they told us this. They disappeared for 10 minutes only to reappear and suddenly food is ready and “would we like it take away”? So the kitchen forgot, we asked them to close our bill, and amazing the kitchen suddenly remembered?
When we said we’d just eat it there (what choice do we have now)… another 10 minutes go by and the food starts appearing. Clearly it wasn’t ready and they just rushed it. You could tell from just the rice…
Cherry on the cake - owner blames his new kitchen staff … despite him having taken our order…
Maybe just a bad night, and clearly some people like it. The place though left a bad taste in my mouth, and I’d just recommend Peking Garden instead.
2 stars because the Spring rolls were pretty tasty. Shame they couldn’t deliver on the rest....
Read moreAll 3 stars are for the food, would give a 5 if services weren’t so bad.
There are 2 section To the restaurant, self served or be served. Touristy wanted to be served, and the services were not great - I asked for the following: 1 water, the waitress bought out 2 glass bottle already opened. amaretto sour - orange juice on the side, it came with orange juice mixed in at the end of the meal, I asked for a check. The waitress said yes, but never come back. I waited for about 20 minutes just to be polite, which at the time I was really annoyed, before looking for her. I saw her standing at the bar, doing absolutely nothing but watching customers; motioned to her the check. I would totally understand if this place was packed, but it wasn’t. My recommendation is do to self served at...
