I had the displeasure to visit this gym, in all honestly I would not recommend it, even more so if you are a beginner. The holds are dirty to the point you don't see the color of them and the light reflects of the now black holds because of all the rubber on them, it seems as if some parts of the wall hasn't been changed in months despite the high visitor rate. The problems also seem to lack logic, some are fun to climb while others are boring and unoriginal. I guess the gym would be perfect for anyone climbing around the 7b grade and with alot of outdoor expiriance then the dirty holds won't be a problem since you just need to climb hard. I give Prais to the bar it looks cool with a fine selection even though the staff was unmotivated and not really friendly. The temperatures are freezing in winter and you really need to warm up alot or dress warm. To sum up the gym and the boulders look outdated, it's dirty and the boulders aren't fun to climb nothing grabs your attation and you don't really know where to go, I would recommend any other gym in Switzerland over this one and to avoid it if you are with someone new to bouldering they will hate it forever if you take them there. I would give it half a star even maybe a 0 but the bar saves it. I hope the gym owners hire younger more motivated route setters who don't mind changing the wall weekly and make more interesting boulders who cater to every grade. Some alternative gyms to visit would be city boulder in kriens and Boulderarea in Zug both are cleaner warmer and much more interesting. Thank...
Read moreThis is a rating for the boulder hall only, not the restaurant. From my personal experience, having been to other gyms in France and Italy, I find this one below the standard I'm used to. The routes are changed sparingly. The holds are ridiculously dirty. The combination of dirt and choice of holds colors makes reading a route very difficult. Holds in general are very slippery. There's no real locker room, showers are in one corner and individual lockers are in the other. The hall is FREEZING in winter, good luck feeling your toes at the end of the session. The gym corner has the essentials to warm up. It gets very very very busy, and you have to wait a lot for your turn to climb, unless you are at a very good level already: honestly, it seems there are too many advanced routes for the level of the average client. As for the friendliness of the staff, nothing out of the ordinary service politeness, at least from my experience: not a negative point, but not a particularly positive one either. There are no other bouldering options in Zurich city, which means that unless some competitor opens for business, people will have to keep coming here. Finally, price wise it is cheaper than other sport options in the city, especially when buying the yearly pass, so whether it's a good deal will depend on your...
Read morecompared to other gyms in europe this place is very expensive for what it offers: the routes are not changed very often, all the holds are black (have not been cleaned for years clearly) and often it's impossible to distinguish colours, the variety of routes within the same grade is very limited (i.e. all hard routes are hard in the same way), it is often extremely hard for shorter people to do any problem beyond green, simply due to extremely reachy moves. please stop having route setters who are taller then average!! in winter, there is no heating, which makes the experience completely unpleasant, and most of the time it's very packed and full with people. the staff is ok, but nothing special, the place doesn't feel warm at all, but more like the playground for the staff members only. we once forgot a wallet there, and even if we called several times they told us they did not have it, after a week we went there and they had it. are you nuts? you have a wallet and you don't even try to contact the owner??? having had a yearly abo and several other abos, I have ultimately decided to only climb in grindelboulder: cheaper, heated, more fun...
